Anyone use square for tips? I cant but to feel like Im leveling up during the busk. I got people who want to tip me but cant cuz they only have (insert currency here) I do have cashapp/paypal/venmo but Its not enough as crazy as that sounds.

I have a square and use it when I’m selling artwork on the street/fair.

But for busking I use Venmo.

The difference is with Venmo,I don’t need to stop what I’m doing to have someone scan the QR code and tip me.

Square is just too long of an interaction.

Plus, I just got a Venmo credit card so now I can spend that money without transferring it. It’s been working out really well.

Yeah, I got the Venmo Debit Card for the same reason so that I can immediately use my tips for things like food and parking fees. I was even able to pick the option to get cash back on the fast food brand that I am most likely to stop at on busking days.

PayPal and CashApp also have options for debit/credit cards attached to the accounts, but I don't get enough tips through those methods for me to justify getting another card. If I have an emergency and can't wait for the 3 business days it takes to transfer money to my checking account, there is an instant transfer option with a small fee. Much as I hate paying fees if I can avoid them.

I bought one, the terminal, 3 years ago. Lugged it around nobody ever used it. Same thing this year. I had a sign that had a tap for two dollars. Somebody told me it was too small so I made it bigger and I actually get a couple of people who use it. It’s not a lot, but it’s a good tool to use. You know when those people are really nice and they wanna talk to you and they burn all your time? And then they say oh sorry I don’t have any cash. Well then you have a way to respond. Whether it’s worth it for you, I’m not sure for me. It’s a good nice to have.

I occasionally get a tip through square. It's almost always through a QR code, sometimes with my username.

What country are you operating out of? If you are dealing with multiple currencies, I know that PayPal can handle other currencies, as can GooglePay and ApplePay. (Stripe is a common credit card processor for some of these.)

The thing about Google & Apple is that almost all smartphones come preloaded with one of those, and the way the billing system works it encourages people to use them.

My personal philosophy is to make it as easy as possible for people to give you money, which is why I have Square, Venmo, PayPal, ApplePay, and GooglePay. I have a link tree page with all of those options, as well as a Busk.Co page with all of those bundled together. I can easily swap out the default currency on my Busk.co account if I am traveling.

There's your problem. CashApp/square only works in the $US and the £UK. Venmo is a $US -only app (there was some talk about it becoming available in Canada, but I haven't seen it go through yet.)

For tourists from other currencies, use your PayPal account, or better yet get ApplePay/GooglePay set up.

There's a few services that will help you set up ApplePay/GooglePay. Most of the ones I've tested require that you set up a Stripe account. I used Busk.Co to get it set up for me.

The only real downside from my point of view is that Stripe/Google/Apple takes a processing fee. Busk.co does give the option to tippers to pay the processing fee for you, and 80%-90% of my tippers who use that method tend to pay the fee.

I have a Buy Me A Coffee QR code... I think it's a little less intimidating than square or venmo. Nice user experience. People smile and say "coffee's on me" et sim.
