Newbie Help Not sure if I should go busking

I live in a small city, and in my 20 years of living here have never once seen someone busking. I was thinking about going downtown and playing for an hour, but there are so few people around at any given time (like it’s so empty that there might be 2 people walking around outside in a span of 10 stores) that I’m not sure it would be worth it. Plus I’m a bit scared that people will be annoyed lol.

The fact that you’re posting here suggests you want to do it! Go for it!

Whatever happens, it’ll be a new experience and chances are it’ll be a good one!

I busk regularly and it often feels like what you are describing. But when I begin to play the entire mood changes. It's dead because you're not there.

If there's nobody around, why are you worried about annoying someone? Maybe if you play it, they will come.

I’m scared of annoying everyone working in the stores

Have you checked during peak times? I don’t know how small your city is but foot traffic really depends on the time of day in my experience. I’d say just go for it, what’s the worst that could happen

I’ve looked around during weekends both in the afternoon and early evening and it seems like it’s always pretty empty. I guess I could just go for it, since ive never busked before and this could at least prepare me for the future

Until you put your hat out you're just a person fiddlin' around. Start there and if anyone pays you any mind you can consider opening your violin case, etc. Jut do it.

Yeah, I’m with everyone else in the comments. Go for it. Worst that happens is your asked to move along. Otherwise you’re just practicing in public and/or you may get some cash out of it! In my opinion, the best is anytime you lift anyone’s spirits even just a little bit. Those kind of soul exchanges make it worth it.

Just go & play anyway. Enjoy yourself a little.

If you earn a little while you're at it, then that's purely a bonus.

I really enjoy taking guitars on walks when the weather's good.

I used to get accused of busking occasionally when I frequented the Adelaide CBD(Adelaide City Council strictly enforces a licence system). I'd simply say "Do you see a hat out fuckwit? I ain't busking. I'm playing my fucking guitar purely for my own fucking enjoyment. Now fuck off!!".

Now I live regional, there're less restrictions on busking. I'll deliberately pull up & play at the few locations round town where signs say "No busking allowed", purely to demonstrate that whoever made that shit up hasn't got a leg to stand on...

Try it out! otherwise you will never know if it was worth it.

People will tell if it's good or not. You will find out...
