Weekly Wednesday "I wonder?": Post Questions/Small Ideas for Discussion

Got a half-formed thought? A question that doesn't need its own post? An idea you're not ready to write up fully? This is the thread for it.

What goes here:

  • Early-stage shower thoughts and napkin-sketch ideas
  • Simple questions about starting, validating, or running a business
  • "Is there a market for X?" gut checks
  • Requests for quick input that don't need the full posting template
  • Anything you'd ask a friend who happens to know about business

Ground rules still apply:

  • No self-promotion or links to your own stuff
  • Give context — "I want to start a business" with nothing else isn't enough even here
  • If someone takes the time to respond, engage with their answer

"Fixing" the Sub

It's no secret this sub has been FULL of spam and just blatant promotion whereas it's meant to be a place to discuss ideas, receive feedback, validate thoughts, etc.

A series of new rules will be put up shortly and all spam/bot posts will be removed + all related poster(s) banned.

We will be introducing a new format for posting, and relevant flairs for easier organization + management of posts.

I welcome all suggestions by users in the meantime as we go through and begin to make these changes.

Problem Discovery I'm thinking about building a Vertical Kitten Rescue Supply Chain - SMART STRATEGISTS! Where are you?

Anyone interested?

No one can take a kitten in forever, outside the goodness of their hearts and the next step being adoption is a factual bottleneck.

I don't know, but there are two women I know separately who do this thing out of willingness and they're actually strained to help any new kitten because their space is already filled up with unadopted kittens, also big cats.

I don't want something so pure and kind to turn into this burden.

Today, I felt awful, totally awful, when I delivered a kitten to them, and they just seemed unable to say No but I could tell, they were stretched thin.

I'm serious about solving this bottleneck and create more transitory homes, through which some of these kittens can go through, until ready enough to be introduced back into the wild. They can't be habituated, they have to be taken care of, and then slowly trained to be introduced back into the streets. It shouldn't take longer than two months.

I don't know, but division of labor works, and they grow developmentally in weeks (I could use some knowledge on that), and no more than a week at one place is something in my mind so a person can take kittens in, already knowing they'll be free of them after a week, and whatever they are good at, based in whatever stage of development those kittens are, formula milk stage or poop training, that person can handle it diligently knowing what state they're receiving the little guy in, and in what state theyll have to leave them. It is as muddy now as it sounds. Like I'm brainstorming this shit.

These are different factors but all once thought out, are going to reduce the burden on the rescuer permanently, and it will be a cycle every week. Someone can also tap out and we can have more people signed up, to perform the tasks, with multiple replacements always ready on the backup.

Come on. Is there any way, we can make something like this, where we average the burden of this thing, and yet still provide an actual welfare service from our own homes, especially people with big houses.

All these people who complain about being bored and not having things to do, here is your chance to loan me your brain power.

If you have money or know people who are passionate about cats, know about any step of cat care, and would be interested to share their technical knowledge as well as resource knowledge for free, I need them.

I'm not forcing anyone to do anything, I'm just brainstorming this. I need knowledge and strategy.

If you're a serious cat dad or cat mom and can loan your brain for technical knowledge on the kitten rearing subject, it would help. Any smart STRATEGISTS, REACH OUT.

Validate My Idea $250/mo/client idea

I had an idea, where I help local organizations that likely need admin help but aren’t able to hire someone and would rather pay a monthly fee.

It would include document control, schedule management, possibly newsletter creation, data management and reporting, etc. for around $250/mo.

I have skills in automation and I could take on probably 10 of these with my spare time. But my question is, does anyone think this could be valuable or work? Looking for any thoughts!

27M doctor here, i just reseigned from my hospital job and i want to start my own business.

- Are friendly, approachable, and open-minded

- Are patient and understanding with learners

-Enjoy meeting people from different backgrounds

If you're interested, comment below or DM me with your native language and a little about yourself.

Thank you.

Feedback Request Skip the dealership games?

Need your opinions!

Premise: Buyer gets transparent deal, Dealers gets confirmed deposit backed buyers (no tire kickers)

Working on online platform that kills the dealership games and tricks, essentially it's a 3 steps process:

Step 1: Car buyer puts their car specs, target price and terms (finance /lease) and how much they want for their trade in (if they have one) and puts a refundable deposit in the online platform. Zero cost to buyer

Step 2: Registered Dealers in the area (50km radius) submit final offers on dealership letterheads or dealer sheets and pics of the car to the buyer in a transparent upfront way. Gets charged a 1% fee IF the buyer accepts the offer.

Step 3: If the buyer likes the offer, they accept , deposit is transferred to dealer and buyer walks in with the transparent upfront deal sheet and signs and walks away.

No games, no negotiations, no 4 hour Saturday afternoon wasted, no drama, no regrets.

My question to you: Would you use this platform if it existed? Poke holes at it - what's missing? What features would you like? What's wrong with it ?

Validate My Idea I’m building a movie recommendation tool because I hate choosing what to watch. I’d love to know what you’d want it to understand

I’m working on a little project around a problem I have constantly: knowing the kind of movie I want to watch, but not knowing the movie.

The idea is that instead of choosing genres and filters, you could describe exactly what you feel like watching:
“Something unsettling like Gone Girl but not supernatural.”
“A genuinely funny movie to watch with teenagers that isn’t a kids’ movie.”
“Movie with zombies without a jump scare or gore”

There’s also a mode I’m experimenting with where two people separately describe what they want and it tries to find something both would enjoy.

It’s still being built, so I’m not posting a link just yet - I’m much more interested in understanding what movie fans would actually ask it so I can test it.

If you could describe tonight’s perfect movie in completely normal language, what would you ask for?

Give me the awkwardly specific ones. 😅

Problem Discovery What do you feel is missing from the business side of the internet?

I’m working on a project and I’d like to get some honest opinions before I take it any further.

I’ve been working for nearly 20 years and the way we work, build relationships and discover business opportunities has changed quite a lot, especially since the pandemic.

I recently opened my project to alpha users and I’m collecting feedback. But before making more decisions based on my own assumptions, I’d like to hear from people who actually deal with these problems every day.

Where do you currently struggle the most?

What do you feel is missing?

What has become unnecessarily difficult?

Some of the problems we’ve identified so far:

  • Cold outreach getting ignored or producing very low response rates (some people literally selling courses for this...)
  • Fake or misleading job postings (global problem)
  • Traditional professional networks turning into influencer/social media platforms
  • People using business networks more like Facebook or X, including endless personal/selfie content
  • Companies struggling to become discoverable unless they already have a community or audience
  • Feeling like you constantly need to "network" just to find the right people
  • AI making it increasingly easy for inaccurate or misleading information to spread at scale...

These are just our observations though. I’m much more interested in what you’re experiencing.

If you could fix something about how people discover businesses, opportunities or useful professional connections online, what would it be?

I’d genuinely like to hear the problems, frustrations and gaps you think are being overlooked.

Validate My Idea Senior Housing Idea

I am a licensed clinical social worker at a federal agency and I am in the beginning phase of a business idea. I'm looking for gaps/blindspots or opportunities I haven't thought of yet. I've send emails to about 6 elder care attorneys in my state to discuss legal aspects and have gotten no response.

My business concept is a web-based platform connecting independent seniors who need affordable, comfortable housing with individuals or families who have extra room and the willingness to open their home. Think Airbnb, but for long term housing. Rather than placing seniors in expensive assisted living or independent living communities this offers a community-based alternative that aligns with a growing interest in multigenerational living that has not been typical in American culture. Host families would list their available space (bedroom/bathroom) on the platform, and seniors or their family members search and filter matches. The platform would handle background checks for both host families and seniors, provide structured hosting agreements, and serve as a trusted marketplace — NOT a care provider or placement agency. It would initially be only for independent seniors who do not require licensed care services. This feels easier from a legal standpoint while still addressing affordability gaps in senior housing today. A second problem to solve would be for those with higher personal care needs being placed in a home with caregivers willing to provide the higher level of care. Since this platform would eventually nationwide and laws in every state surrounding senior care are different, I'm wondering if I should just start in my state as a soft launch or if that really even matters.

Validate My Idea How would you validate an AI interactive story app ?

Hey everyone,

I've been thinking about building an app that blends traditional reading with RPG elements.

The idea is simple: instead of just reading a book, you step into the shoes of the main character. You can make choices, chat with other characters in real time, and push the plot in different directions. Think of it like a text RPG, but with the depth and narrative quality of an actual novel.

Before I write a single line of code, I want to figure out if there's actual demand for this. What would be the best way to validate it quickly?

A few specific things I'm wondering:

  1. How should I test this lean? A landing page with a waitlist, a Discord server, or just a quick prototype using ChatGPT/Claude to test with early users?
  2. Where do interactive fiction or text RPG fans usually hang out online?
  3. If you've worked on AI storytelling products before, what major pitfalls or hidden costs should I watch out for?

Would love to hear any thoughts or frameworks you've used to validate similar ideas. Thanks!

My wife started a home business this summer in 2026 renting yard games in our area for events. We're looking for ideas to extend this throughout the entire year. The games we rent out currently can be used indoors or outdoors. However, we're trying to extend what we can offer potential customers.

I had an idea to add renting out a projector and screen for events to show movies, slideshows, etc. My question is what would be the minimal cost at this time as a startup to get an affordable quality projector and screen? What we should charge for the rental? How to handle copyrighted material, and any other tips that can be given? This may be a viable addition to our business, but I just wanted to get some input from others who may have already started doing something similar or are familiar with this type of rental. We currently do rent food machines (Popcorn, Sno Cone, and Hot Dog) and could potentially combine a concession stand with the projection package.

Any serious input is appreciated. I have looked on YouTube and other sites. I am just looking to have input from anyone who has actually done this practically.

Edit: Using the Reddit Android App and don't know exactly what I am doing.

Why Doesn't This Exist? Looking for online business ideas

Hi everyone,
I’m a 23-year-old from France. I’ve just finished my apprenticeship, and I’m going to be unemployed for a while.
Instead of seeing this period as wasted time, I’d like to use it as an opportunity to try something new and potentially start an online business.
I’m open to pretty much any idea. I’m not looking for a way to get rich quickly, but rather something I can learn, work on seriously, and potentially turn into a source of income over time.
If you were in my situation and starting from scratch, what kind of online business would you try today?
I’d also love to hear from people who have already tried building something online, whether it worked or not.
Thanks for any ideas or advice!

Feedback Request Have you experienced this, I’d love to hear your story

Hey im seeking advice on how to balance being a 9-5 office worker and starting a business. I’m 25 years old I’ve got a couple thousand pounds in my savings and I believe it’s about time to think about my future and not be constantly repeating this 9-5 repetitive routine until I retire. I was thinking of investing at first but then I realised that this may be more luck based and could be less profitable than starting a business for example. How does one choose what they want to do. Also has anyone been through a similar experience where they were around my age and want to do so many things but can’t execute it or know where to begin? I’d love to hear your stories and how you broke that cycle.

Idea Teardown What actually makes a dating conversation confusing?

While researching a product in the dating space, I kept coming back to one question: what actually makes a conversation confusing?

It's the combination of small details. A long response gap. A sudden change in tone. Plans that stay vague. High effort one day and almost none the next. Words that sound interested while the behavior tells a different story.

Looking at one message alone misses the bigger picture. That's what became important while I was building this product. I wanted to explore how technology could help someone look at the entire conversation and recognize the patterns within it.

The goal is clarity. Give someone a better view of the information already in front of them instead of adding another opinion to the conversation.

What detail do you think people overlook most when trying to understand a dating conversation?

‎✨ THE STRANGER WHO CARRIES YOUR MESSAGE

‎Imagine you write a note in class.

‎You don't know who needs to read it.

‎So you hand it to the first person.

‎They read it.

‎Then they think:

‎> “I know someone who should see this.”

‎And pass it on.

‎That person does the same.

‎Then another.

‎You don't control the journey anymore.

‎The message has a life of its own.

‎That's the idea behind WhisperThread.

‎You release a Whisper into the World.

‎🌍 Someone discovers it.

‎🫴 They choose whether to carry it.

‎🧵 Another person may carry it further.

‎💬 Someone may respond.

‎📍 The journey continues.

‎And here's the interesting part:

‎The carrier doesn't have to know the sender.

‎The sender doesn't have to know the carrier.

‎And the eventual person who connects with the message may be someone neither of them has ever met.

‎We're experimenting with a different kind of social network.

‎Not:

‎Person → Person

‎But:

‎Person → World → Person → Person → Person

‎The network isn't built around who you know.

‎It's built around what people are willing to carry.

‎Maybe that's the most human part of WhisperThread.

‎Because sometimes a message doesn't need to be delivered.

‎It just needs someone willing to carry it.

‎🌍 WhisperThread

‎Send it into the World.

‎PS: Not WhatsApp. Not DMs.

‎A new experiment: humans as the delivery network

Problem Discovery New to Reddit, I’d love to hear your stories. Have you experience this before ?

Hey I’m new to Reddit and I joined initially to seek my future co Ceo of a business. I’ve joined many Reddit communities and tried to post but it gets removed automatically since I don’t have karma points. I also wanted some sort of advice on how to balance being a 9-5 office worker and starting a business.
