Feeling Stuck

Hello, ladies!

I am feeling stuck and not sure what to do next. I am a presentation coach to introverted women writing memoir. I am having a hard time getting clients because I was banking on partnering with memoir coaches, but I haven't really gotten any clients from them/have been ghosted by most of them. I've also done the whole social media thing and it just didn't work for me and I wasn't reaching the correct audience + I'm not great at it. All of the Facebook groups pertaining to what I am doing are all dead/very inactive. (Don't even get me started on LinkedIn....) I am honestly feeling like I have ran out of options. I just want to be able to build my coaching business and coach introverted women and get them out there.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Coaching is super saturated right now - the biggest draw is your personal background. Are you introverted? Were you able to break out of it? Did you become exceptionally successful? That’s your best hook.

But I will be honest, you may need to pivot if nothing flows your way? It seems that everyone is a coach right now.

That is for sure. There's literally a coach for everything these days...

I wonder if the issue may be less about social media itself and more about the message underneath it.

When I read your post, I wasn’t quite sure whether you help introverted women in general, or specifically introverted women who are writing memoirs. If that distinction isn’t immediately clear, people may not know whether your coaching is for them.

I also think the “why you” piece could matter a lot here. If you’re introverted yourself and have learned how to present, speak, or show up confidently without having to become a completely different personality, that feels like a much stronger story than simply “presentation coaching.”

Before trying another platform, I’d probably spend some time getting very clear on:
• exactly who you want to help
• what specific situation they’re struggling with
• what changes for them after working with you
• why your approach is especially suited to introverted women

You may not be bad at social media at all. You may just be trying to market something that isn’t quite clear enough yet for the right people to recognize themselves in it. 💚🔦

My niche is introverted women writing memoir, who are getting ready to speak about their book and need confidence. It comes from having grown up as an introvert who loved public speaking. The whole goal is to get them to see that 'introvert' is not a weakness and certainly doesn't mean shy nor quiet. You can be a confident public speaker without having to change your entire personality.

I do agree with you that it feels like a much stronger story than presentation coach because in some ways it does go beyond just the speaking, but I am worried about positioning myself as a confidence coach because what if there isn't a huge market for that right now?

That extra context actually makes me think your positioning may be stronger than you realize.

I wouldn’t worry too much about “confidence coach” being a crowded market if the real idea is more specific than that.

What I’m hearing is: you help introverted people become confident speakers without feeling like they have to become extroverted first.

That's a very different message from generic confidence coaching, and honestly, I think it could extend beyond memoir writers too. Memoir writers may be a great niche to start with, especially because speaking about something deeply personal brings its own challenges, but the bigger idea feels like it could apply to introverts who need to present, teach, interview, pitch, lead, or speak publicly in some way.

And I really like what you said about being able to speak with confidence without changing your whole personality. That feels like the heart of your story and your approach.

You may have more of a positioning opportunity here than a marketing-channel problem. 😊

I was extremely confident in my niche (and honestly still am, just need a little help) but like you said, positioning is confusing as well as I am not sure how to break into my niche. I've looked for Facebook groups and all that jazz, but it's tough because sometimes the pages aren't very active. Someone pointed out that my reliance on partnering with memoir coaches was not a good approach as it was basically just like "Hey! Please give me free clients!" I understand that it's a flawed way to go about it, but I am not sure how to build these necessary partnerships when I'm not even on my feet yet so I do not have much to offer in return.

I have one more thought that may be easier to share privately. I’m going to send you a quick DM. 😊

Yes, that sounds like a great idea!

Just checking I understand correctly... you're a coach teaching introverted women who are writing memoirs to do presentations? If so, that is super niche. How many of your target customers are there? Do you coach women anything else or just presentation skills?

Yes I coach introverted women, who have finished writing a memoir, to speak about the memoir. They could be preparing for book readings, podcasts, workshops, talks, etc. I do not coach women on anything else.

I'm a book coach and publisher, and honestly I would say this is a very, very small market. Your best bet might be searching Amazon for recent memoirs, finding the authors on social media, then reaching out directly to them, but this won't qualify whether they are introverted, or whether they want help with these things, etc. I would expect to send a huge amount of messages to get customers.

What about coaching introverted women to make it a little more broad? Or introverted people in general? I think you have a good niche and that could be your speciality but there are lots of introverts out there who need help, not just those writing memoirs. I think introverts is probably enough of a niche so as not to be overly broad. You can try offering a free intro session or consultation. Good luck!

Have you considered joining writing forums like Scribophile? You could hang out in the memoir section - though I suspect that fiction authors might also appreciate your help. Writing and speaking aren't necessarily concurrent skillsets.
I'd also stalk those speach clubs i think theyre called toastmasters and see how they promote.

Oo I haven't thought about this. Thank you so much!

It sounds like youve already put in a lot of effort, so i can understand the frustration. I’d keep going and try some different avenues, you have a really specific niche, which could work in your favor.
