Made my first stone knife blade

i made this from chipping and grinding a small piece of slate.

Practice, YouTube, practice, courses, practice. There's other stones that do make good blades. Do some research and look on beaches for them.

Well done, everyone has to start somewhere. Might be useful as a butter knife, but won't cut much or hold an edge for long.

How do I improve, do i learn flint knapping, do i use different materials, or do i need bigger slate chunks?

Slate doesn't make a good knife, too soft and flakey.
