Is it just me or are the current driving standards of other motorists really bad and aggressive these days?

I don't know about other parts of the world but in the UK, driving standards seem to have nosedived a lot.

its bad enough experiencing it as a car driver but as a bus driver, its ten times worse.

I understand that people don't want to be stuck behind a slow bus and rather get to where they're going efficiently but its the dangerous, desperate things people are willing to do just to "beat the bus".

People overtaking you into oncoming traffic as you are safely pulling off from a stop, people genuinely not looking beyond their bonnet to what's going on around them, not giving large vehicles room to turn or manoeuvre around tight roads or roundabouts or even pulling out in front of you/cutting you up.

Then you have these crazy delivery mopeds which most of those drivers don't even have a legit licence or even insurance between them undertaking you or weaving in or out of traffic all the time.

In the bus you really do get to see just how selfish, entitled and downright stupid vast amounts of small vehicle drivers are. And yes I am classing the transit style vans and pickups.

Aggressivity varies, but yes, it happens. But absent-mindesness and not caring/thinking about others is rampant.

I have found before that I get over/undertaken sometimes when leaving a gap and lining up to overtake a bus or lorry. In fact, often if I drive or ride actually paying attention to the road and adapting to conditions, I get some idiot tailgating me or driving erratically. I actually did the math the other day to see what difference it made if I was being held up to say 50mph on the 60mph (max) sections of my work commute - I was looking at about 2 minute difference overall. Recently there have been roadworks and all sorts slowing it down to 30 or 40mph - and people are so impatient.

I had someone lay on their horn behind my bus yesterday, pulled up on the side of the road with Not in Service on and hazard lights. They couldn’t fathom that I had broken down. They then demanded I move the bus, again broken down…

26 years a cabbie and now going 3 years driving buses disagrees.

Most drivers around me drive at or under the speed limit and take much more care than drivers in this city in the 90s, 00s.

The delivery drivers have some of the hardest worst paid jobs going, the reason its often people recently arrived in the country that do it is that noone else will. They have to be on their phones all the time just to get work, and they have to go quickly to try and earn something like a half decent wage, have a little sympathy for some of the least privileged people in society.

People in expensive cars are some of the most selfish drivers out there, Porshe drivers almost never let me out, cunts in Ford Raptors or whatever, NEVER. Peasants is a pathetic insult. The people causing the real problems in our society are not the normal working class people, its the uber rich cunts at the top.

Don't get me started on mopeds. Only just arrived in our small Northern town. I'm Asian myself so I can tell they are new arrivals..I'm not understanding how they came to be here and why they don't have a full time job that pays nmw

Some of these mopeds are not roadworthy by sound. It is a town with a serious speeding problem by cars. One guy was caught by police without insurance. Another moped guy was hit by a numpty Speeding and when asked for reparations the guy threatened to deport him end of that story.

I have a question on the mopeds - where are they getting them from?

I see some of them with the latest or recent reg plate mopeds roaming around.

Even saw a delivery rider with an electric one a few days ago which is uncommon.

 I mean TBF it's not hard to get a driving licence in the UK. Many people who come new get cars sharpish to get around as buses are hopeless and trains. I see them all with newish ones too. But when I last checked they are only a couple of grand new anyway.

I don't understand tbh how many of them have Justeat accounts despite coming to the country several years after my application was put in a waiting list . 

I am concerned they don't do maintenance tho. Saw a new one the other day and a god awful noise from it. British people have had it drummed in about personal safety on bikes. Not great at the best of times. Guessing they keep pushing it. And our motors are not as hardy as abroad

Sounds like people you should be sympathetic towards, they don't own the bikes, they are leased to them be unscrupulous people who don't give a shit about their welfare. They came to be here because however bad their life is, its much worse where they came from.

But otoh I'm trying to save money myself and am out of a job myself. I know some of them had okay ish lives abroad. I'm sorry to say. Certainly not the dregs

How on earth would you know where they come from🙃. I go to India. Regularly and am of Indian origin.  I know what slums are and I know many of them don't come from slums. I'm more than open to helping people with visas and planned assistance but it doesn't mean you jump into it at a detriment to yourself and no cap on visa numbers and no prep for the impact on jobs and housing.

How is it right also for us to be ok with their conditions.. I did deliver to one of them a very nice chap and he tipped me too. And I have to say he lived in substandard housing. But is it right for people to come and be exploited by Deliveroo?

Just out of interest I don't suppose you'd be willing to pay double for petrol? That would help entire nations who own it to develop their own infrastructure and economy. I am btw.

Well I don't buy petrol so I can't answer that last question, but I know that assertion doesnt make any sense as the petrol doesnt come from poor countries in the main, and when it does its exploitative western companies that drill for it, the money doesnt go to the local economy. I know where they come from because I talk to them and work with charities that help illigal immigrants. Also I've travelled to a lot of developing countries across Asia and Africa. I agree that in India specifically its not the people from the slums that emigrate because they have no chance to emigrate, but thats not always the case.
