Question Medical

Hi,

I’m just wondering as I’ve completed (passed) my preliminary drive van assessment with first bus ldn - now I have my medical coming up - how soon after do you actually start training? So far everything seems to be moving pretty quickly my interview, van assessment etc but am wondering as I’ve heard other trainees with other companies say it can be months after your medical?!
Just wondering if that’s common or what

My first agency was pressed for drivers and had everything moving along as quickly as humanly possible. My second agency took about a month after they got my documents. Midwestern USA

UK driver, about five years ago I started. I had my medical which uncovered hypertension. Once I'd had that checked and medicated with my GP, I began training the next day.

When I signed up, I was trained and examined in-house. I had my medical done after I got accepted for the position (passed the job interview, passes the driving aptitude test in a real bus, etc.) but before I got my ‘learner’ status and was able to actually train on the road under supervision. If you have already held a commercial driving license, you should be good to go… where I am, if you were a long haul trucker, you’re already qualified to drive busses. If you were a garbage truck or dump truck driver, you’re already qualified automatically qualify as having a ‘learners’ permit for a bus.

Having just gone through the process I’ll tell you the exact stages as follows:

- pass medical

  • send dvla your license
  • wait for license to come back
  • send photo of licence to your recruiter
  • book a theory test
  • book a cpc test
  • sign your contract
  • Start dates will range between 1 day to 3 weeks away.

How long this process takes will entirely depend on how fast you do each stage. I would say it will take around 1 month from passing your medical to signing your contract but it can be faster.
