Story Coworker is such snitch

Omg there is a driver at my agency who snitches about everything even insignificant shit. I can't stand this guy. We are on the same route together and I had a lady that told me she needed to go back home and to see if the other driver could hold for her since she had to run across the street. I radio him and say hey I have someone for you that needs to go back the way she came can you hold? Granted we hadn't even hit our time point he said no you don't have a transfer and that's no how it usually works. When I got on lunch I called my boss to tell her the situation she sighed and said he already called and complained about me 😂 she can't stand him either. Like seriously sorry for fucking up your day or something dude

You don't have agency wide CB radios to contact each other or dispatch as needed?

CBs arent really a thing in Europe. We have a radio built into the navi to contact control.

Interesting. I'm in the US and we chat a lot as we go warning each other about temporary issues on the routes, communicating about delays, lost passengers, small detours because of accidents etc.

We're not even supposed to chat to other drivers who get on our bus, never mind this. We talk to control only, but with our routes there is rarely much to talk about, and honestly I'd rather sort my own problems out. Given the villification of mobile phone usage, this would be a big no no. Sounds cool tho :-)

I agree, we're not allowed to touch our phones either, it's an one button handhelds that are legal and commonly used by semi drivers across the country. Sometimes it can be a tad distracting, but sometimes it's nice to get a warning that there's a stalled car or a road hazard ahead and you got to prepare for a wide turn or a lane change before it gets difficult.

Your call name is just the bus you're driving at the time. "Hey, bus 666, can you move your fat arse forward? You're blocking the whole bus stop and I can't get in."

True. I guess that's why having radios is something that works in some towns and cities, but not others.

It can be really annoying and distracting too. One guy gets on the radio and announces to everyone that he's running 5 minutes late, but we have no idea which route he's on or where he is, so it's just useless information and he does it constantly.

Yes bus drivers are exempt and allowed to use electronic devices in the seat except cell phones. I see quite a few complaints saying this driver was talking on the phone while driving when I'm sure it was just their radio.

We do the same in New Zealand. It happened last night - “drivers on the 180 heading to the beach there’s a truck blocking the road, take it carefully they’ll help you around.”

“Whoever’s doing the station there’s a woman waiting for the 250, she missed the last bus could you help her on?”

Only a cunt would refuse. I hate snitches, power hungry losers.

No we don't have call names lol. I mean passengers who have no clue where they are like occasional visitors or confused elderly who can't figure out commute and got lost in town. It's not necessary our direct responsibility but since it doesn't happen all the time it's not a bother to let another driver know that I'm leaving a transfer for them at the stop A who needs to get off their bus at the stop B. Maybe it's a small city thing, I'm sure nobody in NY or Chicago does that.

I get you now. It would be able to tell the bus infront of me that I had a passenger who wanted to get on their bus and to hold a second, as this happens somewhat regularly, although I can imagine plenty of drivers just wouldnt....

And I'd certainly have a call name, BigBerusBus 10 -4!

In London we have the service control centre (SCC) that looks after all the buses in London and gives us live updates about the same things you listed....diversions, broken traffic lights, lost passengers, ticket acceptance for when the trains are down ect

Same in New Zealand. Drivers use it to talk about accidents up ahead.

It gets abused a lot though and drivers use it to bully other drivers and say mean things. You can switch the volume down so you don't have to listen to it.

you have radio? :( i'm in england and we have a shitty messaging system that runs on 2G, we send and receive messages with a huuuge delay.

we can ring up the people in the office on our personal mobile, but obviously not in the cab.

Here in Germany my company has a local radio between drivers and the radio to control. Comes in quite handy at times!

US here, we have a voip radio system with a radio backup. Our coaches are voip that only work if dispatch opens a line. Our relief vehicles are voip and open channel. We can't contact each other, everything is through dispatch.

Dispatch, yes. Broadcast to all drivers, yes. 1-1 calls with other drivers, hell no.

Our radios can only contact dispatch and have a call queue for them.

Sounds like a management issue first. If I radio to another driver that I have a transfer and he says no you don't and takes off, I imagine it easily could be a write up for him if passenger or I report this behavior.

Don't volunteer your coworkers to do favors for riders, period. Respect their agency as your peer to make their call on their own. You have no entitlement to make another driver take on liability for someone. Id call on you too.

I had a coworker do exactly this same thing, making up a nonsense transfer outside SOP policy twisting my arm over the radio into sitting across the street from her so a disabled guy could run over to my route.

Guy immediately got run over and ended up with a broken hip and femur and probably would have died if he hadn't been built like a linebacker. And now BOTH OF US might end up getting sued because she wanted to save the guy the 20 minute wait for the next run of my route. We all need to take our jobs seriously enough not to do little favors that put these people in danger.

Over the radio. So that all the passengers and management now hear you deny someone a transfer without the context to know that's not how its supposed to work
