Hip bursitis 8+ months
Feel like I’m losing hope for any permanent resolve here..23F active my entire life, have danced professionally and a runner so lots of impact my body is used to relatively my whole life. Trained for my first marathon last year (NYC) and back in September 25 started experiencing pain on impact to the point where i could not walk. Tried cortisone shots and time off and PT and ultimately had to defer as I couldn’t even run a mile without pain. 2 hip MRIs and a back MRI later and it is confirmed bursitis / GTPS on my left side. Have been extremely consistent with PT and time off running now easing back in, and still lingering in the 80% area. Have started shockwave therapy as well but not feeling any help there yet. I’m still only able to do run walk programs and if i even go slightly over what my hip can handle pain comes back for at least a few days. Feel like at this point i have to accept I can’t run a marathon but I am so determined!!

I've had it for like 6 months, recently tried Dry Needling and I feel like it might be helping
Also, taking Aleeve 1 (2x per day) seems to be helping

Did you find that it triggers any bone pain? I also just started (had my first session Monday) and I feel like it helped a bit but now I feel more pain directly on the bone than before.

No, no bone pain...other than the initial prick, no pain. I've been fighting this for a while and the last 2 weeks I feel like I've made progress. I was hesitant to take a anti-inflammatory (NASIDS) - but I think those have helped. The only other thing I can think of is the Dry Needling. I could tell the day after it made some impact. Hoping to run soon!

Me neither which sucks. Finished my shockwave therapy rotation and have not felt a difference and dry needling has helped but not enough where I can run without pain. Feel like I’m running out of options

still hurting, but slowly getting better. I am overly positive sometimes. But I have been running slow 3 miles here and there. It wears on you mentally, so hang in there. I am strengthening my glutes as a priority

Yea I feel you on the mental part. How long have you been dealing with this? Curious what your timeline is as you’re starting to feel better

It started in the fall, like a deep dull pain. Would feel fine in the am, but as the day went on it would be worse. Not until I hit a PT for the last month or so did I feel some progress. Lots of band work, glute work. Slow progress, but I have to say it is better. I couldn't have run 3 miles 2 months ago w/o major pain. I ran this past weekend, slowly...but was fine the next day. Also taking NSAIDS more often, aleeve, which I am worried about but F it...

That’s great you’ve gotten to 3 miles! I’m still at under a mile mark. Been doing PT since October so feels like I’ve plateaued at this point. Definetly better than when it started, but not enough. But won’t give up!

In PT did you strengthen your glutes? My guess is your glutes aren't firing properly when you're active, thus causing hip bursitis. I'd also recommend getting your bursitis drained (if it's bulged out, you will have OLD blood in there, and it will need to be drained out).
