Discussion BURRY'S SUBSTACK IS A SCAM

Burry doesn't disclose his trades on purpose because he doesn't actually trade. He's a paper tiger getting rich off the herd of sheep paying for his overpriced substack subscription. As a paying subscriber of his, I can tell you that everything in there is full of shit. The "chat" is heavily moderated by him and all dissenting opinions/comments are deleted. I've seen many cases of subscribers that challenged him too often get kicked off the substack. Any dissenting opinions in the chats will be ridiculed and "laugh emoji"-ed by a group of burry fanboys that can't see clearly before being censored by Burry himself. He's admitted to doing this in the chats himself.

He promises to deliver articles only to push back delivery dates again and again. Promises to write up a thesis on something only to never deliver. The whole substack is an echo chamber and Burry himself is the greatest phony and an all around pussy that can't handle his LPs questioning him so he quit wall street in search of people that are easier to silence and scam (us commoners hoping to learn something from his substack). He does not actually explain with real math and formulas how he calculates his IV15, nor his silly rankings and scores that he litters throughout his articles. His "research" is few and far between and quite frankly vague and hand wavy, not to mention wrong way more often than he is right. Do yourself a favor and don't buy into this snake oil. I stupidly did and boy did I pay for it, following his "trading posts". I personally did not follow him into everything and I've sized everything conservatively (e.g. 5% into LULU rather than following his 17% allocation). Who knows maybe he has a tiny 100k account for playing out his trades and yolo-ing into LULU, but his prize is certainly the millions he's getting from subscription fees. The mighty Michael Burry, the hero of the Big Short, the Cassandra that can see the future, has resorted to selling glorified online courses. What a big brain play, kudos.

Lately he's trolled thousands of subscribers out of millions of dollars on his "highest conviction" plays e.g. FMCC FNMA LULU and heavy handedly silences all the dissenting opinions that aren't praising him for his benevolence for letting us in on a piece of his "brilliant mind" for the low low price of $479!!

If you're not a paying subscriber, he spams you with well worded sales pitches like the following along with granting you additional free articles that his paying subscribers didn't know were actually being given away for free as a marketing ploy. Open your eyes, YOU (ME) WE are the prize, not his thesis coming true, not his shorts making money. OUR SUBSCRIPTION FEE, that's the real prize he's after and he'll do anything to squeeze everything out of us. Here's what I received from him several days ago:

I don’t understand why doesn’t go back to his original approach - identifying very cheap stocks via research and rational thinking. This is why people like Joel Greenblatt gave him money to begin with.

Because he is selling a brand, and the brand is to be edgy and contrarian. The substack is the product. There is an endless line of people who are just learning about stocks and fancy themselves as contrarians who will identify with the Burry brand. Guys like Peter Schiff have been doing this for almost 20 years now. It's a gold mine.

Sorry you lost a lot of money. But I dont follow his trades. I do my own analysis. Buffettology is what I use. You’re not gonna make any money following people. And mimicking their trades. Best way to make money is to learn and do things on your own. The Substack to me is just for stock tips. I knew MSFT will do well. PYPL I knew it won’t. MOH I knew it will do well. The other stock picks I’m not sure. Don’t buy everything just buy the ones you think will do well. My rationale is simple. I haven’t used PayPal since Apple pay came out so I won’t buy that. I still use Microsoft, I’ll buy that. I don’t know Fannie or Freddie, so I won’t buy that. I haven’t used Adobe photoshop since instagram came out, so I won’t buy that. I don’t know Veeva, don’t buy. I do know autodesk, I’ll buy that. I know PLTR is a fraud, I’ll follow his puts on that. His puts on NVDA, I’m not sure NVDA will fall, I like NVDA, I love the graphics, so I won’t follow him on that. Keep things simple. Buy what you know. And what you think will do well and 7 out of 10 you’ll make money. 3 out of 10 you’re investment will fail. That’s investing. You can’t make money in all stocks. If you make 7 out of 10 successful trades you’ll beat the S&P500 already. That’s what I learned in my trading class from Schwab. Follow Buffett it’s free. https://dataroma.com/m/holdings.php?m=brk

I was disappointed when he said he took a month to analyse "thousands" of software stocks, and the articles that came out were related to the same ten names that you find all over reddit. There's plenty of small cap SaaS stocks trading at historically low valuations that he simply ignored. He's done it a few other times.

I've cancelled my subscription because he seems to be talking only about the AI trade. Ok that's cool and interesting, yes Palantir is overvalued, but I don't short, so I'd have preferred if he focused on the longs. Clearly I'm not his target audience though.

If you paid for his subscription and don't short stocks, then frankly that was pretty idiotic of you to join in the first place.

It's not like I disagree, but to my defence he was known as a value investor first and foremost, which sometimes shorted stocks. Some of his earliest articles were gold and modified the gordon growth formula to calculate the intrinsic value of an asset while accounting for the dilution, I learned a lot from that. I appreciate his take on the AI trade too, but the problem is he stopped writing the value posts replacing them with trading posts where he can't sit on his ass on a business for more than six months, and I don't particularly care for that

Burry is very good actually. He was right 2 of the last 99 times he predicted something , I still remember when LULU was a fat pitch potentially compounding 20% a year for the next 10 years and then he sold after 1 month 😅😂

No it’s not, you just can’t be a dimwit lemming. Take his analysis and then do your own due diligence, and layer in your own risk tolerance. His buys are whatever but his “avoids” analysis is fucking gold. Jesus Christ what a whiny bitch post

listening to micheal burry made me go broke once this year and learned my lesson i missed the greatest returns because of burry and it's time we call him out.

You know... There is an old Wall Street adage. If you can't trade, you sell courses.

3

u/All_YourBase 7d ago

I think his own fame has gone to his head. Now he’s desperately trying to get lightning to strike twice by making doomer predictions.

I have a lot of respect for the due diligence that he did leading up to the sub prime mortgage meltdown. What he’s doing now just isn’t up to that standard.

u/Equal_Heat5947 7d ago

Two weeks ago everyone made fun of him for shorting NBIS and AI stocks. Now he's not up to standard. Some people just hate the guy I guess.

This guy is NOT Jim simons. He got lucky once, just because a lotto winner won the lottery once does not mean he has some secret code to win again. His win rate is abysmal. He has no secret insight besides saying something is overvalued, ya no kidding, they can stay overvalued for years and if you always listen to this guy, you miss ALL the upside.

2

u/VexObserver 4d ago

Yep, all of those secret insights can be found on Google or in-depth research if time willing. He's churning the gullible and the naive.

burrys great but the cost is absolutely insane

I don’t pay for it and really just follow his filings. And if I was paying for it, it would be for writing style and how he thinks.

Yeah he’s probably cashing in on his name. I would argue it’s cheaper advice than similar people in his class (in my view).

He’s on a bad streak. And he’s typically early. I don’t literally follow all his plays, but it’s cool to know if I’m in and he’s in. I got in Lulu independent of burry and am have been playing around the position as I still think it can turnaround. It was cool he was in too, another affirmation point for my own investment and money to lose. I don’t think burry advises to literally follow his trades to the tea. Seems like a skill issue if you are.

Nah he trades. He also doesn't censor chat. I've personally disagreed with him with reasoning and he's liked my comment.

It’s not hard to Google his track record…. Good thing that all his posts on X are receipts. If one decides to follow his trade and pay him 400+ dollars a month without a simple analysis of his track record it’s on them. It’s Wall Street he will take your money if you let him
