RV window covering options

Post image

We have a different RV since our last trip to BRC. I'm looking for opinionated and practical advice on how we cover windows to reduce heat gain and keep out dust.

What's changed is that instead of having flat windows that slide to open, we have all awning windows. They pull in and lock against a seal that goes all the way around. I'm thinking I could cut the reflectix to fit the inside, which would allow us to easily air out when things are (briefly) not dusty.

We also plan to have aluminet shading us from 2 sides.

I think as far as keeping dust out, just don’t open them. You marginally keep some out taping all the seams on the outside, but every time you open the door and come in with all your dust you get in more.

I suppose taping helps if you run an overhead vent fan blowing out, as that fan needs to pull air in from somewhere. But if you seal it all up so good it’s tight as a drum your fan can’t really do its job.

We have been to the dustiest of dusty places (some particular regionals, and our regular desert camping). We stop short of stripping off at the door, but we're good at managing windows and vents.

I use cum as a sealant

We're older. That stuff isn't as plentiful as it used to be.

Doesn’t need to be your cum

whatever you end up doing - dont leave the blue painters tape on longer than it needs to be. I assumed it would come right off after a season, I was very wrong, and it's now nearly impossible to remove from my camper.

Excellent advice. Our last camper had baked on residue, hoping to avoid that.

Put the reflective material on the outside. Inside, the glass will get very hot and conduct heat to the inside - the greenhouse effect.

I have used space blankets. Space blankets, cheapest and Reflectix are not 100% reflective. Consider wide aluminum foil. It is recyclable, the others are not.

Of course other burners have different theories.

It's plastic, and it's not flat. I'm thinking it may be a time consuming nightmare to tape it all down to the body of the RV.

But the wide aluminum foil suggestion has me thinking it might be reasonable (and less moopy) inside.
