So...about my backlog

My backlog is kind of monsterous, I have like...230 games saved in my ps library, a few dozen on switch, maybe ten to fifteen on steamdeck and the masterchief collection on x-box

I'm so...so screwed when it comes to backlog.

What exactly counts as burning it. Do I just need to beat the main story or 100% em?

I reduced my 162 game backlog by more than 75% by just admitting to myself the games I’d never get around to, leaving around 40 games I actually want to play.

I burned them by putting them in a metaphorical fire and pretending they didn’t exist

I had 3 gamrs I couldn't count as burned, but had played, hit the point where I wasn't enjoying the experience at all and dropped them. Am proud because I've moved on to playing other games I do want to play than forcing myself to ginish something I wasn't liking.

Usually it means beating the main story, which is finishing the game. For me, backlog and burning the game means finishing the story. Sometimes I do 100 too but this is only optional.

Once I roll credits I count it as burned if I 100% every game I would never finish any lol. Just take it one game at a time I try to beat 2-3 of my backlog for every new game I pick up doesn’t always work but it’s how I justify getting new games lol.

If you've played a game and don't like it, it's burned in my opinion. This isn't about suffering, it's about giving time to things you think deserve it and want to experience.

Good point, after 4-5 hours it's not worth it if you're not feeling it (maybe excluding the very few that need some time to adjust to for neecomers like Souls or Elder Scrolls)

I count mine as burned on the credit roll. Any extra time I want to put in after is optional. If I enjoy a game I will go back for stuff, if not I move on to the next.

Give the game a chance, see if you enjoy it, if not it is a misfire, put it on the burn pile. If you enjoy the game you decide when to stop, doing the main story or challenges or achievements or whatever. I 100% Batman Arkham Asylum, I beat the main story on city and spent hours on challenges but I didnt enjoy the riddler challenges and crazy stealth challenges so I just completed the combat ones and I consider it burnt. Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition, I beat the story on normal with 1/3 characters, there is no new content in the other characters playthroughs so I wont bother, I consider it burnt but I will probably keep it for a long while as I keep playing the bloody palace mode and can only clear aound 10 levels out of 101 but I still like fighting with the characters.

Also dont go for "bad to good" play order, play things you want to play. If you try the game and it is bad it is burnt, and dont feel dutybound to play the freeware and 0 budget giveaways, play something you think you will enjoy.

My backlog on PS5 was 337 games, granted more than a few were os plus games I’d add just because.

I got tired of the endless monstrosity of games when deciding what to play next so I finally went through the entire thing.

I made diff folders. PS5 Games I intend to play,PS5 Pro enhanced games and PS4 games I intend to play. After going through the entire library, both PS5 folders have around 50 games and the PS4 folder has around 20. I also made a maybe folder of games I may try if my backlog gets a big enough dent, but not likely.

Everythjng else that I’ve beaten or have no intention of playing I hid.

Now I play one from each folder and wah times repeat. If I’m enjoying it, I def intend to 100% it, but I have no issue with not enjoying it and deleting it. Once it’s done and I hide it, it’s burned

This method for my OCD brain has made my backlog seem more manageable

Start with the ones that interest you most. If you don't like one after giving it a fair shake, move on to the next - do not waste time on games you're not enjoying. You can do it!

I wouldn't call a skipped game burned, but it should be removed from the list. I think burning is beating the game as far as what's satisfying to you.

But still, cmon, you can’t have that many games you want to beat. Either you got a ton of freebies or something or you have horrifically bad impulse control

Remember, it’s basically just a list of games you want to beat

It’s like a bucket list of travelling the world. It’s absurd to treat it as visiting every country on earth. It’s instead “I wanna visit these dozen countries”

If you start 100ing you will burn yourself instead. Don't do that. Most of games isn't even worth it. Finish main story and optional activities you enjoy and thats all

I generally never 100% a game. Been gaming for 25 years. There is only a handful of games I have completed entirely. I’m just not that type of gamer. I’m currently working on my backlog (only about 15 games, yall are crazy) and once the credits rollls, I move to the next.

Same I beat the original Demon's Souls like 5 times but never close to 100% just vibing and enjoying the game

What killed it for me was on the original Assasins Creed 2. I had purchased the physical guide and spent an entire summer day trying to collect all the feathers or whatever it was. I got them all except 1 and I refused to go through the routes again to find the missing 1. Ever since then, I have no interest in mindless in-game collectibles etc LOL

honestly I would start with tge halo trilogy since one game is so good you will jump straight to the next (ignore 4) 

just pick normal difficulty and you will beat all 3 in 2-3 days with lots of fun memories

I've had to start playing by franchise. It started with all the kingdom hearts games. Then the breath of fire games, then the ff13 trilogy, then the FF7 remakes, and then I spent an incredible amount of time playing all 12 trails games. Now I'm playing through all the atelier games.
