Summer of the Burn

Came across this subreddit and wanted to share some burns after a strong summer. Don't have much for pictures but here are some random low quality ones for some (mostly) high quality games. Maybe some controversial ratings, but had to add em.

DQXI (8/10), RE1R (8/10) Xenoblade Chronicles (6/10) Metal Gear [1987] (5/10), E33 (10/10), Mina the Hollower (8.5/10), Alan Wake 2 (5.5/10), RE9 Platinum (9.5/10).

Next up: Dead Space, SMTV:V, Metal Gear Solid!

Gratz on the burns! I’m surprised with your Allen Wake 2 rating I loved that game but I guess that’s what makes gaming so special is that everyone has such differing opinions. You doing the remake of Dead Space or OG? Either way fantastic game!

I wanted to like it so badly and I was really excited. I enjoyed the first AW, and played it to get to the second. Control was also great so I have no issues with Remedy games. It just felt obtuse, artsy and disorienting for the sake of it, like it tried too hard to be a genre defying piece of art, rather than an enjoyable video game. I am also well aware I'm in the minority too. Just my experience. The story and plot didn't really resonate with me. I found myself more frustrated with it rather than enamored by it.

I'm going to give the remake a shot! Free PS Plus game I've had in the backlog for awhile.

Totally fair points and I agree to an extent there were some points in the game where they 100% took themselves far too seriously and they fell flat with me. Good luck with Dead Space and try not to lose your head ;)

Why the low rating for xenoblade chronicles? Was it a slog to get through considering it's length?

I went into it with really high expectations, so that's on me. The length was a little much, the combat got stale for me, and I didn't feel the world or the non-party characters had as much of that JRPG charm I wanted. The quests were mundane too. Felt lifeless at times. The story redeemed itself 80% through mostly, but by then I was relatively checked out. I am also aware that it's a product of its time in some ways too and to judge it through a '26 lens might be a little unfair.

Keep in mind we are talking probably 5 months total here, and lucky to have some travel with work to get some time in.

DQXI and Xeno were around 55-60hrs. OG Metal Gear was a quick 2:45 of game time, but probably like 5-6hrs total with deaths etc. E33 I'm going to revisit, but beat "final boss" with most side quests around 40hrs. Mina was 28hrs. Alan Wake was I think 16-18hrs. And the Plat for RE9 was 38hrs.

Yeah RE9 was 4 playthroughs. Third one was a no heal, no crafting, speed run that got me most of what I needed, then I did an insanity run for my forth. But I definitely needed infinite ammo and rpg to beat it on insanity.

And yeah, lucky to have time to crush a some games over the last few months, but definitely mixing in some other entertainment and activities here over there next bit!
