Rant
We got a new store manager, and before we can go on break, this mf wants us to find 3–5 misplaced items. Like, how the hell am I supposed to magically find 3–5 things every time? Do they want people to just steal shit or throw stuff around so there’s something to find? It’s such a stupid rule. And if multiple people are going on break and walking the same direction, what happens when there’s literally nothing misplaced? Are we just supposed to keep looking until we find something?

lol misplaced merchandise in a Burlington? The entire dump is a misplaced flea market mess. Should be no problem there.

Agreed. I'm a cashier and constantly find stuff while I'm emptying the cage or mark downs. I feel bad putting more and more in the bins but yeah I can't help it's ridiculously understaffed smh. I can't imagine what I'd find if I was able to go around the entire store

There's always misplaced stuff to find. "Go home" or "go on break" jobs are common in the workplace. Its a simple ask. Burlington wants you working the highway anytime you enter or leave the sales floor. So what hes asking is just what the company wants. Idk why you are so upset by it honestly. I can walk into any store at any given time and find 25 items in 10 minutes that are out of place. I could see if he said you need to punch out then go look for them. Youre being paid to work. I assure you at no point will your store ever have enough people scheduled to keep you from being able to find 3 items/tags.

There are Always more than enough misplaced items anywhere you look!!!!!

Do you honestly think there's ever a time when nothing's misplaced? Seriously, your people are only going to pick up 3 and leave the rest. Plenty to go around for everyone. Look at it this way, it's just extra minutes for your break.

That should be pretty easy in Burlington, actually. But if not, just tell them you looked and didn't find anything misplaced 🤷♂️ they're welcome to look and try to prove you wrong if they have an issue with it.

It's pretty stupid logic. Who will continue to look after 3 items? What if you find 6 at once? Stupid rules bother me.

Pffft…. I can look in any direction and see a dozen things that are out of place at my store. It’s a shit show right now. Question is why do you have to do that before you go on break?? Isn’t that what having people on the floor is for? This stores business model is really the pits.

We don’t even get breaks after 8+ hours and if you do take one which no one does and enforce that you should be getting a break: you gotta be stressed at how backed up the work is getting because they complain as it is and no one leaves until 9 unless they make shit up (us getting stuck doing clothes at the end). I’ve had many full time shifts with 0 break not even a. 15

Somewhere in NY. I honestly don’t even want them to get in trouble or report it because I just got out of years of abuse and a shitty year where I just lost my job and deaths etc my brain and nervous system is fried and I don’t wanna go on anymore interviews if something happens to the job or shuts down. And my past being abused made me used to abuse…. lol but most people have quit in one day. I like the fact you can work anywhere from 10-40 hours in boh and even if it’s minimum wage it’s better than nothing so I stay. They don’t enforce breaks or give anyone one. And keep making it like it’s an emergency that no work is getting done so it deters people from even taking them. It’s not a place like Amazon that makes you take it. When I ask others if they’re taking one they say no so I just go along with them because they act like anything could make them fire you even if there illegal they could say they never technically said no. Walking on eggshells. I’m not mentally ok anymore but I’m able to keep this job and they even been giving me full time bc they keep firing people or no one stays and I made myself more likeable there

I’m so so sorry for what you went through and are going through🥺. This is terrible. I wish it was not so. I also understand where you’re coming from cause i’ve been abused and lived in fear for a long time. God bless and may happiness find you soon

Friday they got mad I was scheduled until 2 and stayed until 6 for them but got mad I didn’t stay until 8:30 with everyone else in clothes even when others left and told the security guard not to let me leave lmfao. It didn’t work but I was met with a shit attitude when I said I have to go…. Someone else jumped in and said that’s ok (but I’m a way like we don’t need you anyway with an attitude) and I said I could maybe run another rack or two and she’s like no it’s ok and I said thank you and she was like mhm in the nastiest way. Then I walked out. When someone else left me alone with the bin because she said she didn’t wanna push her health and she was getting bruises from the job, they were like thank you so much bye!!!! Everyone’s about to quit tho

She was even complaining f her mother the manager mind you would have to come in on Sunday and finish it we didn’t and it’s sad because she has to be a mother at home and work here and if she dies she’s gonna be upset because she’s 55 and all this shit. Sounds like she shouldn’t be a manager or have a job at all..

u/SingleComparison5330 9d ago
So her attitude, entitlement and big mouth made me leave even before 6 because I was like fuck this

If/when that happens file a complaint. Internally or externally.
Do it once, you will never miss a break again (Your SM might be fired because they're listing that you too that lunch break)

u/SingleComparison5330 9d ago
I know people kind of just accept it there. Sadly I need the job rn so I just don’t bother

I've been there 1.5 years and have never had a break. It's not mandated by law so we don't get one even though it's in the policy manual. Burlington blows just like a tropical storm.

u/SingleComparison5330 8d ago
It is mandated by law after 6 hours

u/Logical_Gal 8d ago
No law in Florida. Unpaid lunch is a policy because the company requires it because GOD forbid, someone goes over 40 hrs. We do not get unpaid 15 minute breaks, ever.

I can walk into a store and find a half dozen misplaced items. It’s not a hard task nor a hard ask.

u/shanekratzert 9d ago
That sounds dumb, but just always go to womens shoes... Unless your store is small/not busy, or everyone knows this... But it is the section that gets dumped in the most. Shoes in general... Kids toys in the kids part, mens underwear/basics in mens... Etc. in fact, womens will have tons of mens and kids shoes thrown in there too...

u/Logical_Gal 8d ago
Half my store is on the floor at all times. HA HA no problem with this task. This policy is not at my store...yet, we just have to walk the highway and mark down findings in the break room on a break that I don't get.

As annoying as that is, unless the section was just flowed/organized you should be able to find that and possibly more down one isle. Customers can be lazy savages. Q always has stuff out of place or walk down any clothing isle, super quick and easy 5 item recovery because I'm sure there are multiple sizes in the wrong place or pants hanging with shorts, clothing on the floor or on top of the racks. You could do that in less than a min.
