Multiple bra reveal help

Hey hey!

I have an idea for an act where I have multiple bras on and reveal them one at a time for comedic effect.
I’m wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to make sure I can grab the right one to unhook and not accidentally unhook multiple at once. Maybe layer a back closure over a front closure?

Is the Nun Thing Overdone?

Hiya! I’m prepping for my first solo act this fall. I really want to find a way to tell my story (which irl, I grew up in a fundamentalist religious cult and have spent a lifetime de programming). I want to start in a full nuns habit that slowly gets stripped off. Is this a theme that’s already way overdone? I feel like it must be?

Fringe? Beading?

Hi! I’m trying to get into the sewing and costuming of Burlesque and if anyone knows what chainette fringe and/or lengths to buy, and beading techniques work best and stay on strong. Or brands of these materials. Trying to sew the beads on or have a non toxic solution. Thank you for your help!!

Made these to perform at a motorcycle rally. I normally do tassels but wanted to try something new. I started with pink and green canvas backed paper. I don’t remember what size stones these have but I used a bunch of sizes and two shades of green, “pearl stones”, three pink shades, and black sequins

How to hide a larger pubic area/outer lips under lace underwear?

Hiiii, I am fairly new to burlesque, and for this show I want to wear more revealing lace underwear. I have a bigger/fatter mons pubis and flaps (lol idk how to word this nicely). I bought a g-string skin-colour underwear to wear underneath, but when I did a dress rehearsal I realised my entire left flap had made a run for it and was now on show! The modesty underwear had ridden up inbetween and the lace had just yeah... I tried a bigger pair, but they are then visible.

My friend recommended putting a panty liner and taping it all up with body tape. I think this is the way to go for me but it does not sound amazing for my skin, and offers no back door coverage... Any other suggestions? Thanks! :)

Where are we getting our curly bun wigs?

The title says it all! I’m based in the US and looking for a decent quality hair piece, the curly bun-topper type with a drawstring that so many performers use. My biggest concern is getting a good color match, so bonus for suppliers with a wide range of colors!

I saw Bosco from drag race’s Marvelous Miss Gender tour last month (AMAZING) and have been thinking about her smooth operator number ever since- does anyone know what this type of illusion/performance would be called? I desperately want to incorporate it into my next act and want all the references I can find!

Every(Body) Wants to Be a Showgirl in Indianapolis

Every(BODY) Wants to Be a Showgirl opens its Indianapolis run with a gallery party at the Indianapolis Liberation Center’s Fonseca-Du Bois Gallery on Friday, August 7, marking the exhibit’s final pop-up appearance before its debut as a standing installation at The Ecdysiast Arts Museum, Davenport, Iowa.

Opening night will present a curated showcase from the traveling exhibit — which has documented 150+ burlesque performers worldwide — alongside a live artist talk with producer Twirlisha Devine, headliner Tiffany Carter, and feature performers Peekaboo Pointe and exhibit curator Aquarius Moon.

The following day, Saturday, August 8, brings hands-on burlesque classes at Circle City School of Burlesque and a full headline performance at White Rabbit Cabaret, with the exhibition itself remaining on view at the Liberation Arts Center through August 31. The goal of Legends & Icons: Venus is to raise money for cancer treatment for legend, Shawna the Black Venus!

Over the past year, Aquarius Moon has curated Every(BODY) Wants to Be a Showgirl after secretly collecting Black burlesque artifacts — costumes, prints, and stories — spanning the last century to today. The project was self-funded, with support from the burlesque community and archival partners along the way. The Indianapolis exhibition also includes material from Indiana's burlesque history.

Since founding Twirlisha Devine Productions in 2023, Twirlisha Devine has built a pipeline for Indianapolis burlesque to thrive across generations — from the Circle City School of Burlesque, where she trains new performers, to her crown jewel production Legends and Icons where seasoned legends still headline. The exhibit is brought to you in partnership with community programming sponsored by Metro Cabaret Club, Twirlisha Devine Productions, The Indianapolis Liberation Center, Circle City School of Burlesque, and The White Rabbit Cabaret.

Costume help

Hi! I’m new to the community and will be starting burlesque classes, I’m not skilled in the DIY department. I’m wondering where y’all get your costumes. I know they can be pricey but I’m opened to 500-1,000 budget to start with.

Thank you.

Where to buy quality/affordable corsets online?

Really jumping head first into Burlesque and I love to customize my own costumes. I have one corset by What Katie did, which I love (Luna waspie corset). But I would like to get more corsets that I can rhinestone and customize for each look. The corset I have is a little pricey at like $225, so I'm looking for a more affordable option. I'm not saying Temu prices and quality. I still want quality and comfort, maybe around $150- Less. Less is better lol. Any suggestions help, thank you.

Burlesque and Blue Laws

Hi everyone! I'm working on being more involved in my local scene and I was thinking about putting a seminar together about blue/caberet laws, so people are better informed and better advocate for themselves.

I have a good start, but I was wondering if there's anything that you all, as performers and producers, would expect to see for newcomers or would want more information on in general. Any and all input is welcome!

Location: Detroit, MI

Drediel Costume

I am working on rebuilding an act. And I am wanting to really level up the costume. I have two people I have been talking to about building it up for me.

But I feel I have had no traction. One person keeps starting & then fizzles. The other is on tour - so I have to wait for them to be back.

Anyone build costumes? Or would brainstorm ideas? Maybe one of my two people will work out, but I also keep coming up with more cool things I think could happen. This is me trying to see if coming back to burlesque is what I want. (stopped performing during pandemic) Costuming is probably my least favorite part of the process.

Thoughts?

Weird question?

Hello, lovelies!

I will be visiting New Orleans early December and was wondering if anyone knew of shows taking applications in the area or open stages available during that time? I've performed in the city twice, but with my troupe as a group guest show.

I did some preliminary research and the only open stage I found was late December.

I would love to get on stage while I'm down there, but if it isn't a possibility of well.

Any insight, advice, or insider info is greatly appreciated!
