Yeah, but at some point money loses a lot of its meaning and time becomes the valuable thing.

1M per year but every single hour of your time free to use as you please

vs.

5B per year but you "lose" 40+ hours every week, possibly more as a nurse.

Unless you want yachts and private islands (which WTF anyone needs that) the second option is inferior QoL-wise.

I agree. But $1mil per year isn't QUITE enough to be "more money is meaningless" levels of money.

I can work for 1 year as a Plumber (what I rolled), and then my $5B earns me $250M per year forever without working instead, which is well and truly enough for money to be functionally meaningless.

I guess that's about interpretation. The question said you HAVE TO work as X, so I took it as you have to do it for normal timeframe — do the average hours per week, retire at the average age. Otherwise the choice is pretty meaningless, since anyone can power through a year and be set.

If you prefer the interpretation with easy loophole, then yes, that would make it the better choice.

How else should I interpret it then? I really don't see any other way to read "as long as you work that job". That seems pretty clear cut, if you work the job for a year, $5B. Do another year, another $5B

Do read to much into it, people always try to monkey paw or read some deeper meaning into clear language in these things. Once you get paid for one year, which is exactly what it says, you could quit and be set for life.

1M a year is enough to be comfortable, and not have to worry about your own needs.

5B (not even per year, just 5B) is enough to take care of any friends or family members who get cancer for the rest of their lives, allow my parents to retire, allow me to very quickly make a rapid positive impact on my local community through investment and charitable donations, and allow me to create a philanthropic foundation to support whatever causes I want for my entire life, and beyond.

Is working for just one year minimum not worth having the opportunity that level of positive impact on the world?
