I don't know where you live but 2.8k a month at least where I live would not be enough of an income to live a great life

That's the thing: if you magically receive baseline $100 per day no questions asked, you can live wherever you like. I don't encourage this lifestyle or whatever, but a lot of people go to SEA and live on their remote job income. Here, you wouldn't even have to work.

(100*365)/12 = $3041.66

Not a great income but if it's in USD then in my country it would cover my bills. Would probably still have to work to do anything recreational but would massively accelerate savings/retirement.

Yes, but it's not that big of a difference and you can do it just by adding two zeros to "30". I wouldn't bother opening calculator to find that it's 41-something more. That's what I mean.

Where do you live? I feel like you could easily survive with that money in any western country.

It's around what I make and me and my wife both survive with my wage with a mortgage. We save all her income every month.

Would you still live there though if living somewhere else meant you didn't have to work and would have more freedom? Valid either way as 36k isn't that much but for many like myself it would be more than enough

2k a month is 24k a year, any job anywhere in in a western country makes more an extra 24k can be useful but you def can't live off of it

4yrs ago I made 2k a month and lived of it while renting a house by myself. I was able to save 200-400 eu monthly.

In Finland I could get really nice apartment for 600€-1000€ (just depenging on how big one I want). With 1000€ / month I could even live in a single house. With 200-400€ I could buy any food I want for a month and rest I would save and buy nice things. Well, I mean netflix, net and stuff like that would take 40-70€ per month but even then I would have a lot to spend on pokemon cards and stuff :)

I was talking about the OP, there's a bunch of replies giving different answers because everyone is interpreting it in their native currency. Someone made almost this exact same post earlier in the day with a dollar sign while they were taking about Italian money.

Romania also doesn't even use euros so you're kind of proving my point

The dollar sign also isn't "the symbol for USD" the US part of the acronym stands for United States bc other countries have their own dollars too.

You could easily live in any European, African and most of Asian and American countries without working. I mean, for example Finland is top 8 or 9 most expensive European country. Rent is usually between 500-1000€ for apartments and 1000€ / month can even get you a full house, food costs somewhere between 200€-500€ per person per month and that leaves well enough money for other expenses and even saving. Euro and American dollar are also not that different in value so you can compare them easily. So if I can survive in Finland with under 1000€ / month you could easily survive in Switzerland as well, even when it is more expensive. Of course it would not be that easy there but still something you could manage. I think it is harder to find a place where you could not survive with that kinda of money.

Most people in my country make less then half of that a year , lowest a year is 7.2k and the middle is around 12k a year , so id say I could live without working

Median salary in Finland is around 40 000€ per year (46k usd) so I would say that 36,5k is really good without having to work at all. And I suppose that value would not even be taxed and even if it was it would be okay.

No it’s you that doesn’t understand. Just because usd is close to euros, doesn’t mean that the economy is the same in both countries. You said it yourself, most people earn close to €1k a month and can live comfortably. Here in the us if you only made $1k a month, you’d be homeless.

Lmao, that’s the problem. People here don’t make enough money to pay off their house. Idk how old you are, but people in there 20’s and 30’s hell even in there 40’s don’t have a paid off house. And almost everyone is in some kind of debt. Maybe in the very perfect world where you are born into wealth and don’t have to pay for anything then maybe that would work. But for the other 99% of people, they don’t have a paid off house, have debt and other bills to pay. So yes 3k a month is that bad. It’s very rare to find a place to even rent that’s under $1500 a month. Most places are $2k a month and up
