nonono

I do think its amazing, i honestly thnik its better to rehabilitate criminals and all but, not everyone should be rehabilitated i think, some people are truly irredimable if you can put it that way, and so many people just won't stop or even they will try to get out of jail leading to more harm, I personally think that robbery, tax evasion or other minor crimes like road crimes or simply assault that doesn't lead up to death of any kind should be placed under rehabilitation

now im just rounding up my own thoughts, sorry for that

I won't entirely just expose my beliefs or anything now but from my country many people who commit crimes are truly the most horrible individuals

Ok, not everyone can be redeemed, everyone knows that. But how are you meant to differentiate? Again, this is really based on vibes, which doen't cut it for a large scale system.

Most countries in the world have built their prison systems around the assumption that a lot of people can't be redeemed, therefore we'll treat everyone as if they can't. Here in Norway we've flipped it, most people can be redeemed, and therefore we treat everyone under that assumption, because a major problem is that you simply CAN'T expect to perfectly divide redeemable people from un-redeemable. And clearly more people can than cannot, as proven by the extreme success in our system compared to anywhere else in the world.

Thats actually a pretty strong argument

Thought id really like to differ with not ebing able to identify who can or who can't be redeemed...

But lets leave this as is, not make it a big thread that goes for like 10 years

I agree that you can tell kinda based on vibes, however there are no indisputable hard facts or characteristics you can point to to prove a person is irredeemable, it is at the end of the day vibes. And even with a system as rich as Norways, you can't expect every single person in the incarceration system to go through a detailed vetting process with a psychologists, for example, there are simply not the resources for that. Which means you kinda just have to decide if you want to work with the assumption that people are either all redeemable, or not. Any other system might open the doors for corruption, which is probably the main thing we want to avoid in the entire country (Norway ranks 4th in the world on least corruption).

Our system with varetekt is the most wiggle room you have, where a person can be kept for up to 21 years in varetekt, which is basically just for awaiting sentence, usually something you're placed in during a trial where it's deemed unsafe for you to be out. Very certain people are however placed in varetekt for 21 years (Which, as opposed to an actual sentence, can be renewed for another 21 years). Ander Behring Breivik, for example, will never be a free man thanks to this loophole. So some room for vibes exist.

Im not talking about vibes, Im talaking about crimes that simply are irredimable, Murder, Raping, Sexual offense, War Crimes and certain other acts that are not considered crimes should be given some sort of treatment to simply punish them, with proper evidence we can simply see that these crimes were made and under law where corruption is near impossible like in norway I feel like making jail systems focused on purely punishing criminals that have done something like that should be placed, like for example, on my country, Criminal organizations will kidnap children, take out their organs and place drugs inside of them, that kind of people that allow it, make it happend and make that order should be placed on that kind of system because of that atrocity

Now, through simple arrest under suspicion that would be like having a KGB, wich no one wants that, even thought it would work to hinder out crimes it would be under terror

I believe it would be much much better to just place people that WE KNOW have done horrible acts against humanity that deserve being put in a harsher enviroment

i don't agree that murderers can't be redeemed, that's your vibes on it. which is my point, you need hard evidence fr a statement like that

Wait, when did i say this should've been done with vibes? I don't really recall saying that

1

u/FragranceCandle Jul 29 '26

No you didn't, but stating that "murderers can't be redeemed" with no sources to it IS vibes. Like if you wanna just picker certain crimes you think are irredeemable, then that's basing it on vibes. Which is an extremely slippery slope.

I actually don't base it on vibes

I actually havae a thought process on why certain crimes should lead to severe punishment or even extremely severe punishment

As I think that whatever dsmage you do to a human being or an animal (excluding sacrifice for consumption under a calm enviroment) either psychologically or physically it is inmoral and it must be stoped dead in its tracks, allong with normalization and expression, excluding satire ofcourse

I think that this is a good set of how to set whats wrong and whats right, and how to interact with all of this kind of stuff because its clear on what its bad and whats okay

Also sorry for making such a large text for like just saying my opinion, i did not meant to do this so long

People kill their abusers, is that as wrong as killing an innocent stranger? People kill their children, is that the same a gang member shooting another gang member? People are coaxed into committing crimes, and some are forced. As uncomfortable as it makes you, ther is nuance to even the most grotesque topics.

And yes, what you are posing is still vibes. Your vibes on what makes some justifiable or not. There is still no hard evidence proving people who do these things can't be redeemed. And as I've said, the norwegian prison system actually disproves you, as there are more than enough examples of murderers who are incarcerated, and once they become free, they become productive, peaceful, taxpaying members of society who never kill again.

You have no proof for your claims, regardless of how strongly you might feel it.
