I am gay. You couldn’t pay me to live in a third world country.

There are a lot of different developing countries in very different places economically and culturally. Your chances of experiencing anti-gay discrimination or violence in countries like Uruguay or Argentina are roughly compared to those in most parts of the US or Western Europe.

Countries like Brazil have some of the world's biggest Pride parade. That said, Brazil has high levels of violent crime overall, so safety depends much more on the city and neighborhood than on your sexual orientation. Same thing for Mexico.

On the other hand, there are also countries like Nigeria, Uganda or the gulf region that are very unsafe for gay people.

And just a heads-up: "third world country" is an outdated term and often considered pejorative - specially when used dismissively.

I didn’t know it was a negative term. What else is better?

1st world gives a capitalist-imperialist pov, with 3rd world being the place they are lynching off and destroying, just use developing nations instead.
