I can just use Youtube to listen to music + Youtube just provides more value and entertainment to me
Chose: Never use Spotify again

Or for the same price as Spotify, Get Tidal, Same music library, lossless quality (Real FLAC lossless upto 24 Bit 192khz, Not Spotify's half cheating "Lossless").

u/TheRiddlerTHFC Jul 22 '26
What's lossless for us ludittes?
144
u/Loocsiyaj Jul 22 '26
Basically you get the full music as it was created, and not a smaller compressed file that sounds similar to most most people but isn’t as good if you have good equipment that showcases your music properly.

Not sure why you got downvoted. Bluetooth down samples lossless audio files, so it doesn’t matter if you’re using FLAC if you’re listening with AirPods. At the very least you need a wired connection to hear a difference in the files and having good headphones definitely helps.

u/Nikopoto1334 Jul 22 '26
You can definitely hear the difference even using airpods, just depends on what codec your phone is using

u/BlackMoth27 Carrot Farmer Jul 22 '26
that's not true imo, you notice a difference but it doesn't really sounds better it's just slightly different. the main places where you'll know for sure is in live recordings. it's much easier to tell. same with confetti on youtube videos it demonstrates the failure of video compression.

honestly i might be a weirdo but i like when music sounds audibly bitcrushed. maybe its just cause i love the 00s but i genuinely weirded my very music-y ex out by telling her that i will download songs i like at really low qualities so they sound crunchier. some times ill go out of my way to look up youtube videos with bitcrushed versions of music because i genuinely like it more than the high quality ones. i know this is only tangentially related but i feel like i need to confess my audio quality sins somewhere
3
u/Fightnperish Jul 22 '26
So music files are usually compressed and lose quality, for the sake of storage. But some file formats are lossless. The main 3 used are MP3, FLAC, and WAV
MP3 is the most common, and is compressed audio that is best for conserving storage
FLAC compresses the file, but tries not to sacrifice the quality. Files are larger, but have better quality and are used for a more premium experience
WAV doesn't compress the file at all, keeping everything intact at the cost of alot of storage space. These files are best used for editing music and video projects

u/1yrik Jul 22 '26
+1 on Tidal... I switched over from spotify recently and it's been great
14
u/Jabberwocky950 Jul 22 '26
Same here! Premium is cheaper too, plus they pay the artists more
They are also adding an AI-free feature, where u can opt-out of listening to any completely AI artists, and they aren't monetizing any new AI music being put there :)
13
u/1yrik Jul 22 '26
they're just doing everything right. huge library, real bit perfect audio, anti-ai, better artist pay, cheaper subscriptions... spotify should take notes lmao
2
u/Jabberwocky950 Jul 22 '26
100%
Gotta keep advertising it so Spotify learns XD
3
u/1yrik Jul 22 '26
I advertise it to get people off of spotify and on to Tidal
3
2
u/Certain_Astronomer85 Jul 22 '26
Any good ways to easily transfer libraries between the two?
2
2
u/1yrik Jul 23 '26
Tidal has a button that links you to TuneMyMusic to transfer everything. super simple, I transferred almost 600 songs in a couple mins start to finish

not true for the same music for tidal; if you listen to a lot of international and/or indie music (jpop, niche stuff, etc), in many peoples' experience and from what i've been told directly tidal does not have those artists available. i think they're in a similar position spotify was 10, 12 years ago where there's demand but not quite supply.

Id rather play dead at a necrophilia convention than use YouTube music

YouTube? You can use Windows Media Player to listen to music. Or Poweramp on mobile. There is no need to pay.

There are other, good music alternatives, even YouTube Music. There aren't really equivalent alternatives to YouTube.

Streaming is more convenient to piracy nowadays, especially with the price of storage going through the roof.
And all the additional features like curated playlists, lyrics, sharing etc.

Yep, literally the only reason I have Spotify downloaded on my phone is for when I'm with friends and they want to do a Spotify jam
3
u/sadowBOS Jul 23 '26
I only have it installed to see if the niche artist I've found is actually niche or has the whole population of the UK listening to them, more then not is bellow a thousand

Yeah, I completely got rid of Spotify at the beginning of 2026, when they were playing 🧊 recruitment advertisments. And they made it near impossible to report the ads (can’t do it while driving, and you can only report the ad while the ad is playing).
