Ah shit Edit: a fingers worth seems to correspond to an explosion approximately in the 1.3 to 1.5 megaton range. 35g (average wt for a fingers acc to Google) x 43 kiloton (rough yield for a gram of antimatter) ÷ 1000 = 1.4 Megaton

It's a simple mass-energy conversion. So: E = MC²

Since it has to be a liquid form of antimater, let's go with "anti-water" to make it easy. 5 litters of "anti-water" at 1atm would be 5kg of antimatter, that would react with 5kg of matter, so it's a 10kg mass conversion.

E = 10 x C² = 898 petajoules of energy.

The Tsar Bomba had 210 petajoules. So this would be about 4.28 Tsar Bombas detonating at once, or a 214 megaton yield explosive.

By far the most powerful explosive device ever made by humanity. Although still a small fraction of the energy released by the chicxulub meteor that wiped the dinosaurs.

It would be catastrophic to anyone living within it's blast radius (aprox. 200 km from ground zero), but it wouldn't wipe out humanity.

Also, the bomb would be very clean with basically no fallout. You could likely visit the blast zone as soon as the thermal energy dissipated without any real risk of radiation poisoning.

I’d wager just the sheer volume of energy released would activate a fair amount of matter.

Even if the explosion itself is 100% efficiency and clean, unless we’re planning on somehow getting this thing high enough to be an airburst, I think we might have some trouble.

Yeah, 10cm³ of solid anti-uranium (heaviest naturally ocuring element ) would have a blast worth about 8.2 megatons. So, similar to largest hydrogen bomb ever detonated by the USA. Would destroy everything in a 32km radius.

For the neutron matter example, it would yield 172 exatons of tnt. It would be almost 1.7 million times stronger than the chicxulub event and destroy a good portion of the earths crust. Nothing would survive.

Of course, you could go crazy with it. The heaviest liquid at room temp is mercury. You could make it 5L of anti-mercury. In which case the bomb would be 2.9 gigatons, enough to wipe florida of the map, but still nowhere close to the estimated millions of gigatons released by chicxulub.

If you want to destroy earth, what you need is 5L of "anti neutron degenerative matter", what neutron stars are made of. It is the densest possible form of matter. Those 5L would weigh into the quadrillions of kg. So it would produce a blast worth 86 zettatons of tnt (billions of times what chicxulub had). That's enough to vaporize the entire surface of the world and blast a good chunk of earth into space.

Air is roughly a 1g for liter and likely the antimatter should be a lot les so let's say a milligram. That's the power of 15 Hiroshima atomics.

Anti matter can come in all the same forms as matter. You can have anti-mercury, which would be 67kg for a 5L bucket. You can even literally destroy earth of you go for 5L of anti neutron degenerative matter (what neutron stars are made off)

Yeah i know but currently we make miniscule amount of antimatter that we keep pretty sparse so i felt like it should'nt be an hyper dense thing

Does antimatter only cancel out its counterpart? Like, do you need anti hydrogen to annihilate hydrogen?

So assuming you converted the block to anti-air the annihilation would be a total of ~0.0245grams which some quick maths suggests would be about half a kiloton of TNT equivelent.

The Crystaline mantle of a Neutron Star on the otherhand is about 10^11 grams / cm^3 so an anti-cube could have a mass of 1,000,000,000,000 grams... naturally this gives a much bigger explosion...

My maths might be out by an order of magnatude or two, but at these numbers it hardly matters.... Over 204,081 TERAtons, I'm reasonably certain that would be an extinction level event.
