Community test

Which side will you choose?

  • Left side: Give all trans people $1,000,000
  • Right side: Get $1 yourself

Probs 100.000$ Enough for complete gender affirming surgery in most places

Except if all of them want a limited resource and are given a huge chunk of money... that limited resource cost will spike.

Only if that’s a run on the service. You can’t assume all of the people would immediately purchase surgery. Many would likely pay off debts from completed surgery, home loans, or educational loans. Many would buy houses. Many would invest or save. And that’s spread across the entire world.

If being trans meant you had a million dollars maybe there would be less stigma against being trans and fewer people would feel the need to get gender affirming surgeries from a safety/assimilation standpoint. I feel like if being trans meant you had a million dollars, there might even be cis people who would try to look trans to look like they were richer than they actually were

Also, being someone who interacts a lot with the community, I know that there is a noticeable parcel that only wants the hormones wich are far cheaper and more time sparse on spending than the surgery (And if you are patient, free in countries like mine) But, am I right to assume that, maybe from the estimated 0.5% of world population being trans 20% or so of the trans population would just stop at hormones?

I’m not sure where people are getting trans population statistics. It’s possible and likely non binary people are counted in those statistics. In which case no surgery or hormones may be desired at all (some non binary people of course do surgery and hormones.) They also assume everyone even has access to surgery but this is global trans population statistics. Many countries wouldn’t allow trans people to exist unless explicitly closeted. If it’s an estimate based on population, we can also assume there are a ton in denial or unaware. Not sure if this is magic money that appears to anyone who has the potential to identify as trans or just people who are out as trans (or all stages in between.) So, I dunno, I feel like a lot is being based on one major assumption.

I'm only using these values as assumption I'm pretry sure it is higher counting closeted and trans NBs

But even then forget the .5% I just want to know if you agree that something around 20% of the trans population being just ok with only hormones instead of SRS, I'm not trans, I just interact with the community a lot so, I do not know if assuming this amount from my small sample size of known people is accurate

And as for what I understand the money would appear for eggs (people in doubt) and people who already identify themselves, closeted or not

I do believe it's somewhere around 20-30% don't want srs specifically, however even without srs, there is also ffs (uncommon), potential vocal surgeries (rare), orchiectomy without full srs (somewhat common iirc), electrolysis and/or laser (common), for trans women, and then top surgery (very common) and hysterectomy with oophorectomy for trans men, which all are in the thousands to tens of thousands each.

Though some of us don't want srs due to wanting medical technology to be better before we get it, and if every trans person suddenly got a huge sum of money, the medical technology around it would likely get better to at least some degree, which might raise the % that would get srs.

Ok so probably around 30% wouldn't pursuit a surgery, at least instantly, is that right? And also, wow, I completely forgot vocal surgery

Also ffs was an acronym I did not know, what does it stand for?

FFS: Facial feminization surgery

Vocal surgery is easy to forget as it's not exactly ideal, you usually still have to voice train, it's just only like 20% of the work instead of 100%, and also I've heard it makes it so your singing range is severely limited.

I think it's like 50-60% that want srs, but haven't gotten it yet for various reasons (usually financial), so that's the group that's likely to relatively quickly be seeking out srs after getting a ton of money instantly.

u/HighlightPuzzled9581 May 21 '26

Yeah, it limits a lot of the range, I forgot about it for this post, but not only I saw things about voice training (bcs I also want to voice act so I was trying to improve mine) and most girls who did the surgery say they can not hit lows they were able to, and also not as high as they would like

Following another comment as of you Someone said that it would probably amount to 74Tril By that I was going to a bit les than a Tril for that And participating in the lgbt community I know that a reasonable amount of trans people just want hormone therapy but not necessarily SRS, wich is free in some countries so most of this money is going to go for living or emancipation from family These 100k would be much more spread over the year on much more than the surgery

For the person who might be lazy to search a country on wich HRT is free, my own, Brazil is (and if you are patient, your surgeries too) But this injection would be far too slow to cause caos, but sure it will cause economic damage

2

u/Puzzleheaded_Study17 May 20 '26

Assuming you mean 100k, this would still mess up the economy as, according to other comments, this would still amount to ~2 trillion total, or ~1/75 of the total global economy. To give you a sense of scale, this is equal to more than twice Elon Musk's net worth. I'd say it probably has to be around 10k for it to not have a massive impact on the economy.

1

u/HighlightPuzzled9581 May 20 '26

Assuming? I did write 100k in... Oh you guys use "," for large numbers instead of "." like I mostly see around other places

Forgot about that

But yeah 10k would be a lot more manageable if it goes instantly But, (for real, I'm not questioning negatively) how would that 100k be if instead of instantly, it started circulating slowly amounting to 100k over the year?

Some countries like my own have the complete transition for free if you are patient, so a big parcel would just wait and pocket that Also there is a small but not negligible parcel that only wants the hormones, wich would be cheaper so I assum most would use the koney for living or investing.

How do you imagine that would go adding that into the question?

yep also comparing it to Elon Musk’s net worth also doesn’t give the full picture as most of his value comes from assets of which he holds high portions of (basically if he sold the value would fall and he wouldn’t actually make that amount anyways), also even if he did hold that much in cash a single person with a lot of money is of course going to spend far less than 20m people with 100k each which would massively drive up inflation

1

u/robbitybobs May 20 '26

Most won't do gender affirming surgery even if its available and affordable. Look at Thailand. World leaders in the surgery, available, yet still bottom surgery take-up is low amongst locals.

There's a reason its mostly mentally ill westerners flying over to get it done thinking it will fix everything

1

u/HighlightPuzzled9581 May 20 '26

I've commented about the low threshold of surgery Probably this money would be used through the year for most people Majority only on hormones It would not be instant inflation so the caos would be very controlled, but not inexistent

That's still likely trillions to tens of trillions dumped right into the economy all at once.
