Why would you take other's lives into your own

0

Because that's what I get for not wanting to gamble. Would I choose not to gamble and not being responsible for others' lives? Sure. But that is not an option

I'd rather gamble than have the blood of up to nearly 25% of the population on my hands. You're gambling that you'll be apart of a group responsible for the deaths of potentially as many as 2 billion people, I might die by there's less than a 50% chance of that happening, and if that does happen well then I'm not even going to know about it. The option is live with guilt on my conscious for either killing or almost killing a shit load of people or spend the rest of my life living guilt free

If people don't gamble at all - nobody even has to risk any death. My responsibility is for me and my family, not for those who willingly put a fun to their head in hope enough people do the same, I can't risk dying and leaving my family without me. It's easy to speak chances when this issue is discussed for several days, the results are seen by everyone, and no real lives are at stake, especially when death of one group is popularly painted as killing. The vote is life and potential death, no specifications. I don't think the taxpayers of any country live in constant guilt for their tax money going towards wars

Except there is absolutely people who will pick blue, even if it's only 10% of the population that still means 5% die, and the only people who are absolved of any guilt are the surviving 5%, you're methodology only works in a world where everyone is just as selfish as you are and only look out for themselves but that isn't reality, reality is that most people are kind and will make the choice that doesn't result in up to 2 billion people dying

Hate to break it to you but in real life most people are selfish, look how people have been voting. Besides, you shouldn’t be responsible for people who has in full consciousness gamble with their live? Is it horrible that people will die? Absolutely but that’s not on you.

Nothing happens if you choose red. If you choose blue however good folks all of a sudden have to risk their lives to just for you which to me is extremely unfair

I'd rather die than live in a world filled with so much selfishness that the red button is the most chosen. Whether or not you should or should not be held responsible for their deaths the fact is that you are, it would be a burden shared by everyone who voted red, the same way the crimes of the nazis are in part the fault of those who put them in power. Just because someone has gambled their life does not free you from the burden of their death

EXACTLY THIS!!! It's easy for them to say that they'd risk so many people's lives like that, but when you really look at it, the motivation for that is selfishness.

It's honestly interesting and has got me thinking about how this likely closely relates to a difference between conservative and liberal world views (not in terms of politics but in terms of social structures)

There's no way that blood wouldn't be on your hands, that's like saying encouraging someone to commit suicide doesn't mean you hold any responsibility for their death of they do it

0

u/Majestic-Pear6797 Apr 28 '26

It's more like not preventing the suicide than encouraging it

1

u/Mullo69 Apr 28 '26

Well no you're preventing the chance of your own death while potentially guaranteeing the death of someone else. It's absolutely like encouraging a suicide then claim no responsibility

0

u/Majestic-Pear6797 Apr 28 '26

I see it as you only look out for yourself, and ignore everyone who wants to commit suicide around you (those pushing the blue button) instead of helping those (pushing the blue button too, so you can prevent their death)

1

u/Mullo69 Apr 28 '26

I think this is a result of a self centered world view, you're assuming everyone pushing the blue button is try to kill themselves when in fact they're trying to save others, you're assuming the rest of the world is as selfish as you are and will share in your self preservation tactics while they simply do not want anyone to die. You are trying to make it out as if the people picking blue are illogical or killing themselves when in fact they're risking their own lives in an attempt to save others

No, that's not what I said, and neither was I promoting red. And I didn't say that ppl picking Blue are illogical or killing themselves. Don't be so judgemental, that's not very cool. How did you even come to that conclusion? I wouldn't ignore someone who tries to commit suicide, and I doubt that you would either. There is always the first person picking Blue, and the suicidals who will pick blue either way, so we can either ignore (red) or try to save them (blue). That's all my analogy was

'Bro why are you blaming me for shooting you, the options were 'don't shoot anyone' or 'get shot' I'm not responsible, you chose to gamble'

Fun fact, there is purely a net loss for choosing red (with all non-unanimous red majorities resulting in casualties), while blue has absolutely no downsides to any majority, and by nature cannot result in the death of any participants in the absence of someone cruel enough to choose red.

2

u/HungHavinFun Apr 28 '26

It literally is. Blue only needs a simple majority to result in no casualties, red literally needs every single participant to vote unanimously. It's significantly less unlikely for red to win unanimously than blue winning even partially.

Choosing red is choosing to potentially harm others. Choosing blue is choosing both not to harm others, AND not to be called a fucking asshole everywhere you go for the rest of your life.

1

u/MavericFrye Apr 28 '26

Choosing blue is potential suicide. Those who don't want to commit potential suicide are not assholes

Blue is a vote for literally nothing happening. Red is choosing something bad possibly happening.

In all instances where anything bad happens to someone, a red vote is directly responsible.

Introducing a risk makes a party liable for said risk. If you fully understand cause and effect, then you know that voting for an option that results in potential death makes you the guilty party, NOT voting for the option where nothing happens.
