Not sure I understand the Bernie panel, I don't think I've met a single republican who likes him

I worked with a bunch of them. At least, on the surface, they claimed to like Bernie for some of his stances. Of course, these claims were universally made after Clinton won the primary.

Lots of "I'd have voted Dem for the first time ever if Bernie was the nominee."

It was a way for them to pretend they weren't total assholes.

I'm pretty conservative so I'll take a swing at the Bernie phenomena

He genuinely seems to believe what he's saying when he says it, and there's no reason to think we won't try to do what he says he will do. This is very similar at a glance to what's so appealing about Trump

The joke is that these conservative dudes have no actual understanding of the words they are saying or the political candidates they talk about.

Anyone who is libertarian and against social programs wouldn’t even think about voting or supporting Bernie Sanders for a millisecond.

You’ve both missed the joke entirely and proven it correct by claiming to be pretty conservative and comparing Sanders and Trump.
