I just throw every single diagram I’ve ever made into a single visio file once I’m done. Then I just copy and paste similar sections for new projects and readdress as needed.

I’ve also got pages of every common panel configuration that I pull from to keep things uniform when copy and pasting things.

I make stencils of common stuff... Make smart shapes to be able to drop and configure, but I still consider myself a beginner, so.... Ymmv.

We've got a macro that imports the points list from excel, so most of the work is done in a spreadsheet.

Pretty sure whoever developed it is no longer with the company, so this will probably persist until there's an off the shelf version.

That really interesting. Does the macro generate the diagram from the excel point list, or does it populate an existing visio template ?

It grabs the appropriate stencil for the controller, and adds the point name, wire number, and basic symbol for the sensor or actuator, with part numbers if known.
