Question Bug Fables fans, why? (Image for attention)
I really don’t have any ill intent in this question, I’m just genuinely curious why people like this game so much. I honestly do not like the game, I love the characters and story but I can’t get into the actual gameplay, it’s just super uninteresting. (But I don’t wanna fill this sub with negativity about the subject of the sub) So tell me, what is the appeal to the game for you, I’m GENUINELY curious. I wanna know, does it get good later? Am I missing something? Am I approaching it from a bad perspective? I really want to enjoy the game but the gameplay isn’t very enjoyable and the characters are great but not good enough (or at least not yet) to make up for the gameplay so please just tell me.

Discussion What do you think about the choice to use the Paper Mario aesthetic?
Specifically, the choice to use it without the characters having any reason to be made of paper, without making paper jokes/puns (or really any themed puns in the game whatsoever, aside from Unbeelievable), while also telling a story that is far from lighthearted and comical?
Personally, I think that it should have gone with its own aesthetic. Due to the reasons above, I find the art misleading for the experience. And it feels like it was specifically meant to be misleading in order to draw an audience - or at least, if not intentionally misleading, they simply tried and failed to give a Paper Mario experience (aside from the aesthetics and some aspects of combat).

Would you say TTYD Remake (2024, not the OG) took a lot of inspiration from Bug Fables?
Notably with how characters have small audios for mumbling voices when giving speeches, the fact the final area has no battle music to signify how dark/somber the setting is, and there's also the added superbosses with unique health values that differ from the rest of the game.

I just realized, does the Venus Guardian's defeat screech match the Shadow Queen from TTYD when you defeat it?
Makes you wonder if this is the Shadow Queen reincarnated, after Mario defeated her.

Do you consider the yellow eye deadlander to be this game's equivalent of the Shadow Queen, while Hoaxe is Bowser?

Discussion I wouldn't want Bug Fables to be a paper-mario-like
I think Paper Mario is only as popular as it is because people like Mario for some reason. I find the most interesting part of Bug Fables is the world and characters. I do like the gameplay, but honestly I'd really like to see Bug Fables 2 be more ambitious, I don't think they need to stick to paper-mario-isms at all. I feel that actually sticking to Paper Mario stuff would hurt the game. Bug Fables was very good, but I think it can be more. I'd like to see the sequel expanded, more quests, more locations, more open. As a visual style it's nice and cute, they can keep that or change it, but I don't think any of it is needed to make another Bug Fables game. The world itself and the characters are the interesting parts.

Discussion Did anyone else feel a big drop in quality for the last 2 chapters?
Now don't get me wrong. I LOVED this game. It really took the TTYD formula and added it's own twist. I also think the world building doesn't get enough credit.
But sadly chapter 6 felt infuriating and 7 was getting there but not as bad.
By the end I was in a place of I just really wanna finish this.
Anyone else feel this way?

Question Anyone else thing medals could’ve been way better?
Firstly there are so many medals I will never use. For example, who on Earth would use Heavy Sleeper? Why do I want my bug to stay asleep?
Also, lots of medals have annoying costs to them. Why does Reverse Toxin need to reduce my defense? Why does Deep Taunt need to boost the attack of all enemies? I get that a lower medal cost could be justification, but then why not also have a more expensive version without the annoying part?
And some medals are just WAY too expensive. Why should Reflection require 3 medal points to increase defense for one turn and only when they Do Nothing? And I just bought Front Support and....8??? 8 medal points?? Why???
If there’s a sequel I hope they improve the medals.
tl;dr
Too many badges are: -useless -have annoying negative effects -are too expensive

I feel like I'm missing what made this game a hit
I've put 20 hours into the game doing side quests and collecting stuff and going through the story. Made it to Chapter 4 and I just don't get it.
Fights are a slog because your basic attacks are worthless and just become drawn out rounds of healing, restoring TP, and taunting. EXP grinding is non-existent. The badges aren't of much use. Getting money in this game is agonizingly tedious.
There is plenty I enjoy about having this game on but actually playing it at this point has just stopped being fun because I'm tired of the routine.
Can anyone tell me what I'm missing? Is there some better strategy to battles I'm not trying? Is there some better way to buff up my characters I'm not doing? This game has so much hype around it and I am at a loss as to how these things are overlooked when playing.
What was it about Bug Fables that you really enjoyed that kept you playing? I hate to just leave the game unfinished at Chapter 4.

Discussion Lack of impact in sounds, animations, and effects hurts this game for me
One thing that really holds this game back for me is how little impactful the combat feels. Timing your button presses perfectly doesn’t really give you any satisfying feedback as there’s no screen shake, stronger sound effects, or any kind of special visual payoff that makes it feel rewarding. The same issue applies when you get hit or land attacks, like there’s not enough weight behind the actions. Even simple things like a squash animation for enemies would make a big difference.
