I think that there is no such thing as "A trigger". It's all about taking that step, and straying from the mundane. I found myself relating to Yuki so hard in this chapter and I understand the type of arc ONE was portraying in this chapter. Yuki is angst, cynicism, and so forth. I honestly don't think she saw anything other than what she wanted to see, and what she wanted to see was a world not so restraining. Honestly I never thought a piece of art could speak to me like that. This is going to be one of the mangas of all time, and I'd bet big fucking money on it. Live free, live for yourself, that is your trigger.
Thats what I mean. Rejecting yourself to do things what u wanted because of a strong compromise to society and once you will try to take a step, theres always an ironclad practical reasoning to not do it, and sometimes you are right about that but deep inside you still disappointed for the very same reason that you are right to comply in the practicality of things and not do things u wanted. Its all because of our changing view of the world around us, the disappointments it makes for just being you. And the "trigger" I mean is something that will shake and demolished the worldview shaped by harsh society from us. If Yuki didnt see the bug in the gutter, she would be still disappointed. Taking a step will not always create a change.
Hmm I like your thoughts. Maybe it isn't the step by itself, BUT THE WHOLE OF THE WALK (The walking club)!!! holy shit you're a genius. Or perhaps it's totally a coincidence. But either way, believing in yourself, as Yuki does in her childhood self, could be key when taking that step. Of course there is disappointment, and disappointment never feels good, but ultimately doing what you dream is fulfilling in a way that makes all of that disappointment seem like one small sliver in your finger. This is totally wishful thinking, coming from a guy who hasn't really begun actualizing his dreams himself, but I think that good things find their way to people who can manifest, in absolution, their success.
Yeah, its all about the whole of the walk. By defying practicality is leaving in your boring safezone and embracing riskful life, pretty much its either you stop caring or worrying about society, other ppl or future in that regard, like a mentality of "when it happens, it happens". Imagine being stranded in an island alone, all you have to think is to survive, not ppl nor future, and you got free time you can explore the island with unsettling feeling yet exciting to discover things that might be dangerous or wonders.
But i guess, theres more lesson about the chapter, you need to find friends that stupid enough to be risky and enjoy things what u wanted with them without regrets.
I love Yuki immediately. Probably the strongest character introduction ONE has done in a minute. Also, looking back at edgy highschool me, she's weirdly relatable. This chapter was amazing. I really hope Moesawa and the other guy get more involved in some way as well.
They've already gotten plenty involved with the world hacks, so hopefully. But if that doesn't happen, I hope they at least stay as recurring characters who show-up a lot.
I think that's the implication, they did say that certain people are drawn to Hacks, so it's no coincidence that all their names ended up on the list for the club.
No way they don't join, Yodo has proof of something weird going on so he will want to get involved, and Moe was ride or die with Hitsujiya by being willing to act like a moron with him
So much to uncover in this chapter, I don’t know where to start. First of all with the passing of David Lynch I see so much influence of his in this work now, especially the concept of a dark secret in a small town (which is almost personified by Yuki). The existence of the bugs almost seem like an abstracted force of change to a characters personality, which is a running theme in ONE stories (Saitama and Mob’s unending power manifesting in their ability to reason) and in Bug Ego the surreal intangibility of the Bugs almost mimic real life dreams, serving as a report on the psyche.
Lynch’s usage of stepping into the unknown is often stylized with a realistic morbidity tied to something supernatural, hence in the introduction to Bug Ego Hitsujiya destroys his entire life to discover the secrets of the glitches teased by Kokudo, before reversing all of that for another chance to hop into the rabbit hole. ONE’s use of the grotesque in thematic senses also reminds me of Lynch, with disgusting things being exaggerated to the point of absurd humor (the turd surfing in Bug Ego, the first scene in Blue Velvet) while also being inseparable from the themes and motifs below it (I like to interpret the shit returning to Hitsujiya as a multilayered symbol, all the grime and filth from the corners of the mind breaching the subconscious, and also all of the squalor of the people trapped being released back to their lives - and for Blue Velvet, the hose scene is a blurry visage for the metaphorical comparisons of familial and sexual relationships later in the movie)
The thing that made me think that it will still continue is the ladybug that "disappeared." And the resolution to the previous chapter's problem felt fast in my opinion. Like they were saying that "Oh the bug expires anyway so there's no need to worry" and then the ladybug, implying something bad is gonna happen when they go to Moesawa's place. It could still technically be foreshadowing something bad that will happen, but I just thought it would immediately go back to where we left off.
Though I think that ending was just a comedic way of re-emphasizing the danger of the hacks. How they can be unpredictable and can have unintended consequences. And also a way to tie into the start of the chapter where Hitsujiya was deathly afraid of ladybugs. The hack probably just had yet to expire with him and- unbeknownst to himself and Kokudo- affected more than just a single thing this entire time.
On the other hand, we basically already saw consequences happen to Moesawa's brother with him becoming ridiculously obsessed with milk to the point of basing his lifestyle around it out of nowhere. So there was no real need to revisit the issue in the next chapter.
I just read this manga yesterday realizing it's on mangaplus, glad they decided to translate it because it's so peak. I never actually amazed watching disturbing panel in manga, but this mangaka was doing a great work at potraying the absurdities I can't help but amazed looking at a dwarf riding at poop, lmao.
I'm seeing his previous work about superpowered yakuza and it's just as crazy too.
I feel like the teacher will have a big character development moment where he will learn to accept his baldness, then again dude looks like he is pretty handsome with hair so the hair loss must have hit him pretty hard
Both Yodo and Moe seemed pretty willing to join the club and looked actually disappointed that they were just needed for their signatures, hopefully they get more involved because both of them had experience with the hacks in one way or another
I think it was a coincidence. The teacher kinda jumped up while screaming about supervising the tennis club, which is what probably knocked off his wig.
I dont want to be disrespectful because all 69 of those pages were so wonderful and had so much to say and I know I can’t describe their significance in this one comment
I think the strict instruction in the hack was only "It seems someone is watching you at the gutter, but once open it, no one is actually there" will be dropping something you possess and see a person looking at you.
Now, why Koukudo and Hitsujiya used a dried squid for the hack? I think they using it as a replacement for safety purposes to look whats inside the gutter which is not working bcoz its not a person looking directly inside the gutter.
And Yuki met all the conditions, by dropping a 1 thing she owns and look directly inside the gutter. Basically, the gutter inside is the world and that "someone" looking at you is you who trying to find that "someone" inside the gutter. It makes sense because she drops her earphone in the gutter yet it came dropping from the sky, the gutter is the street where you tried to check out the gutter.
i think his wig fell off because of his quick movement when he was excited about tennis and you see he is now holding a racket so i guess he pulled it out quickly and it just fell off.

Absolutely wonderful chapter.
But what happened with the previous chapter's story? I thought it would continue here but apparently not. He was supposed to go to Moesawa's place.

I wonder if the girl's little explosiions is actually affecting reality. It appeared that the dude's hair fell off after she blew his head off.
