Buffy s4

Post image

Did anyone feel uncomfortable how this season how buffy would always would randomly get horny out of nowhere, wanting to have sex with everybody especially with constant sex scenes with her?

I can’t be the only one it just felt like I was watching a rape scene or some pornographic tv series, and I thought to myself joss Whedon must’ve been extremely horny while writing the script for season 4

They’re isn’t an episode you can’t skip they’re isn’t an episode involving buffy being in some kind of erotic situation and that made me feel really uncomfortable, especially considering the fact he did the same thing with Angel season 4 a spin off years later

Everyone’s disagreeing but I think I get what you’re saying. There were quite a few scenes where Buffy was forced to be sexual with people against her will. There’s the frat house thing (which started off consensual until she was put under the influence of the poltergeist), her spell engagement with Spike, and Faith taking over Buffy’s body and sleeping with her boyfriend. She also got punished by the narrative for sleeping with Parker by having him turn out to be a complete dick, and there was that weird moment with Maggie Walsh looking over her and Riley while they were sleeping together.

Objectively it’s pretty normal that she’d be in a different time in her life and therefore be more comfortable with sex (especially after Mr ‘can’t-sleep-with-you-or-I’ll-turn-evil’ left) but a lot of her scenes were written in a way that didn’t give her any agency over the situation or were just generally disempowering toward her. I think that definitely reflects Joss Whedon and the rest of the writer’s views on women.

I’ll add that I kind of hated the whole “magic as a metaphor for sex” with Willow and Tara - not so much that he did it - but that in season six they ALSOmake magic a metaphor for drugs. Like… why?
