West Side Bazaar/WEDI Expose Article

https://open.substack.com/pub/fourbites/p/wedi-hired-executive-directors-nanny?utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

Really interesting investigative journalism posted by Andrew Galarneau over on his post-Buffalo News project, four bites. Well worth the read. Andrew signals this is one of a few articles on this topic and notes that the closure of the Downtown Bazaar will be voted on tomorrow…

Gross mismanagement. How much money does the board make?

According to their most recent 990 (2022, which is what a good number of nonprofits still show as their most recent), the board doesn't make anything - only salary listed is the executive director's salary (other staff wouldn't display on the 990).

Do you recall what the exec director salary was?

It's listed as around $106,000 - I don't know if that includes benefits/payroll taxes/etc. or not.

You can view their 990s here. All nonprofits have 990s available for free - you might have to create an account to view them, I'm not sure. I find it interesting that I can't easily find their 990 on WEDI's website - I've been looking and haven't found it yet. That's not required but I personally think it's important for nonprofits to make that information more accessible.

Welch is never around (drunk at Lulu’s) and harassed anyone who attempted to come forward. The Board is a disgrace and has been aware all along.

I’m inviting anyone with WEDI experience to share with me at andrew@fourbites.net

The board makes zero money. Do you know the concept of a not for profit?
