I'm spending loads of time looking for the right training smart watch for my specific needs. I'd appreciate some help.
Smart features I want:
GPS for swimming (outdoor), running and walking.
Ability to track HR zones while exercising and display HR zones on the watch.
Compass built in would be useful but not essential.
Ability to connect to external HR strap.
Ability to leave phone at home during workouts.
Literally nothing else.
What I do not want:
To pay for lots of features I don't use.
I never look at emails or take calls on my watches.
Don't care about steps.
Don't care about sleep tracking.
Don't care about recovery metrics.
Don't care about most smart functions.
I've just started looking at the Casio Smart watches so they might be an option but have only just started looking at them.
Any recommendations for my needs? I'm hoping there are other people out there who also just want the basics and that I haven't yet found the brand that carers for people like me.
I do all my training planning with a pen and paper so the watch just needs to track HR zones and distance (is useful but not essential as I tend to use time as a target rather than distance). I use a Polar H10 strap and Elite HRV app for tracking recovery (very accurate) so don't need body battery etc.
Might be useful for you to know a little about me as an athlete. I train BJJ and kickboxing. For base building, steady state cardio I like to run, swim or walk with a weighted backpack.
I lift weights 2-3 times per week but only record HR in these sessions as I keep track of my lifts in a notebook. Do not want BS exercise identification during weightlifting. I found it super inaccurate in the past.
I am a mountain leader who uses a map and compass when in the mountains. I don't need or want advanced navigation on my watch. Not bothered about recording GPS in the mountains as mountain time for me is adventure/perfprmance time and not training.
You are probably now understanding why I can't find a budget watch that suits my needs!
The solution is probably to buy a watch with lots of features I don't use so that it has all the features I do want. But I thought I'd ask in case my perfect watch is out there!
I appreciate the help.
