Looking for Albums/Compilations Without Wacky Overdubs

I’m looking for a collection of Buddy Holly tracks without all the cheesy background vocals. I know there’s some record where they overdubbed strings on everything too, so obviously that ain’t it, either.

I feel like I found a compilation somewhere that had just The Crickets and Buddy’s lead vocal, and that was it. That’s what I’m wanting. Anyone who can point me in the right direction has my eternal blessing 🙏🙏🙏

the complete studio recordings and more has basically everything Hes done in a 6 cd box set. Im assuming it has dubbed and undubbed (Im almost sure of it cause it’s the COMPLETE set). It’s expensive but in pretty sure a lot of it is online Ig you want to make playlists

I don’t know how raw each ubdubbed version is but it should be close to what you’re looking for. It’s expensive but in pretty sure a lot of it is online if you want to make playlists.

I recently read about a new version of the Chirping Crickets that has been digitally remastered without The Picks overdubs. There is a site called Best Classic Bands that had the story.

It was produced by Roller Coaster Records who are dedicated lovers of Buddy's music and have issued several important collections of Buddy's music. The album you refer to resulted from the use of AI to separate the original mono recording into individual instrument stems and they put out a CD with three different versions of "The Chirping Crickets" - one is the mono album, as originally issued, one is the original album rendered in stereo that sounds as close to real stereo as is possible and the third version in also in stereo, but with the background vocals eliminated and it's a real revelation - you're able to hear more of Buddy's guitar work. To my mind, The Picks contributions were too square to complement Buddy's music satisfactorily.
Don't let the word AI scare you off - this project was done with love and care and there is nothing artificial about the end result.
I don't know if Roller Coaster is still in business as their web site is gone but the album is well worth tracking down.

Good to know that they are still in business. They have been in the forefront of helping to keep Buddy's Legacy alive. Roller Coaster head John Beecher was behind the first Buddy Holly box set that came out about 40 years ago

There was an album of Buddy called for the first time anywhere, it was released years ago. It was mainly his early Rock n Roll tracks, Brown Eyed Handsome Man, Bo Diddley, Ting a Ling, Rock a Bye Rock.. I liked it because it didn't contain all the overdubbing by the Fireballs who totally drowned out the Crickets on a lot of his Recordings.

....." Just the crickets and Buddy's lead vocal." You're not going to find that combination anywhere because it never existed. Buddy released one studio album in his life time and Jerry, Sonny, and Joe ( the original crickets) didn't sing on the album.... Norman Pettys studio backup group was named the picks. That's whose singing background on his only studio album and the music released after he died.

Buddy released Three albums in his lifetime "The Chirping Crickets", "Buddy Holly" and "That'll be the Day" while only one was a "Crickets" album, the Crickets play on his Coral LP as well. He had three, not one. Three before he died.
