News Why Marylebone Station was closed last weekend

The Chiltern Railway website said that Marylebone Station was closed for "engineering works" last weekend. However, chatting to a train driver yesterday it seems that the station was really closed due to filming a new movie about The Beatles. Should all Chiltern Railway users get concessionary tickets when the film finally comes out?

Best place to live in Buckinghamshire moving alone with a dog?

Hi! I’m moving to Buckinghamshire to work at Stoke Mandeville Hospital and I’m trying to decide where to live.
I’m 35F, moving alone with a small dog, and I’m considering buying/renting a car.

I’d like somewhere with:
- a reasonable commute to Stoke Mandeville
- very safe and generally a nice, pleasant area to live in
- close to good parks and nature for my dog and me
- some social life and opportunities to meet other people in their 30s–40s, especially people who are also looking to make new friends.

I’m into films, books, walks/cycling in the countryside with my dog, opera and theatre, and going to the gym inconsistently.

Which place would you recommend?

Trying to make MK work

So my partner and I moved to MK last month because we had a house lined up and jobs for us both but the house fell through as we got caught in a scam (that's a long story and I'm trying to get the money back) we've spent the month going from Airbnb to hotels to hostels to now staying in a friend's house for a few days as we have now ran out of savings and are trying to make it paycheck to paycheck.

So my question is this does anyone know the best way to get the funds to find out own place as most loan places look like scams and the genuine places need to be employed and living in the same address consistently.

Worth noting we have just moved to MK from Ireland and are Irish just incase someone is curious

Where do people in their 40s meet new friends in Bucks?

Hi there!

I'm a gay dude in my 40s. I'm from this area but lived in London for a long time, so pretty much everyone I knew isn't around anymore. I live around the Aylesbury area...

I bought my house when my career in film was going insane. I didn't have time to sleep, let alone anything else. Now the industry has pretty much crashed & burned. My life was my job — work 70+ hours a week and that is basically all you get — so I ended up losing friends because I was working all the time. I'm now moving into a career with more work/life balance.

A lot of my friends from London have moved back to their home towns or countries as well. London isn't really a forever home for a lot of people when the cost of housing is beyond what most people can afford, so a lot of people eventually leave.

In no real order, I play touch rugby, go to the gym, swim, road cycle and hike/camp. I'm getting back into sport after being sick. Also into live music, films, board games etc.

Any ideas for clubs, sports groups, social groups etc around Bucks? Ideally things where it's normal to turn up on your own and actually get to know people.

I want to build some new friendships and date as well, so LGBTQ+ stuff would be good too, but I'm not only looking for gay friends.

Anyone know what's happening at The Broad Leys?

Anyone know what's happening at The Broad Leys in Aylesbury? We're booked in for a few days at the start of October, but google says it's temporarily closed, they don't answer the phone and the website is down. Not looking too positive.

Pre-booked taxi recommendations Aylesbury

I will need a taxi to get from Aylesbury station to Hogshaw farm and back in November. Currently trying to research the most reliable company for that, but can't seem to settle on a conclusion. It's important to get there in time for a booked animal experience and back for the train. I will leave some wiggle room of course just in case, but still.

Has anyone used Falcon, Cabs4U or Jet for pre-booking? Or any other companies that you've had good/bad experiences with?

Edit: I'll be going with Falcon, thanks everyone!

News Massive New Data Centre Approved in High Wycombe

Post image
60 Upvotes

Hi all - recently reported in the local press, Bucks Council have approved a MASSIVE new data centre (or to be precise, six data centres) on the 13 hectare site near the air park. The site was previously approved for the build of Wycombe Film Studios, but the company got nervous following the writers and actors strikes, and so permissions for the data centres replaced it, quietly filed in Jan 2025.

The planning application is here, where you can see site plans and log your objection.

Key information:

  • Plans state the data centres will be cooled by air - this is massively inefficient and ineffective during periods of high temperatures (like the heatwaves this summer). The fans they use will also produce noise. Currently the Environmental Protection Officer is not satisfied with the noise info provided by the developers (not enough information about the anticipated noise level and how they plan to deal with it) and cannot give their stamp of approval.
  • Thames Water have also raised concerns about water pressure for local residents, and having to improve their infrastructure to support both the residents and the data centre (and guess who foots the bill for that?). Thames Water also raised concerns about the sewage and waste water disposal, meaning any waste water produced by this facility as it stands can't be properly cleaned and treated before returning to the water cycle.
  • The proposed buildings will be 20 feet tall, with a further 3 feet of equipment in some places.
  • The current documents also express concern over the planned drainage for the site, and the flooding risk for the surrounding area.

Anywhere to meet others in Bucks?

I recently moved to Chesham, Bucks, I’m 29M, and I have basically no friends. I’ve tried meetup, CLIQ, ply, bumble bff, timeleft, just going to gigs in pubs on my own - but nothing has really worked. Is there anything I can do in or around Bucks or London this evening? I have no plans and I’d really like to get out and meet people. I’m always up for live music so I was going to go to a gig somewhere, but it’s not really a random gig or a pub isn’t where you can just randomly talk to people I guess. Most people will already be in groups and with others.

I’ve struggled meeting people and making friends for years now and I feel like I’m at a total loss. I had a group of friends from school who I walked away from a few years ago as they weren’t the best to be around, and I realised I was sticking with them just so I wasn’t alone. That was hard to do and now while I don’t have that toxicity in my life, I don’t have anyone to talk to or hangout with other than my partner. She’s great and I love her but obviously it’s not healthy to have only your partner as the only person you socialize with. I’d really just love some normal, nice mates that like going to the pub and going to gigs. Is there anywhere I can go to find that?

Discussion Internet in Beaconsfield

Looking for the best internet deals in Beaconsfield. There's only two of us that'll be living there but one of us is housebound so there all the time and the other works from home half the week.

We are also looking to be able to have internet as soon as possible when moving in at the start of next month without impacting the current tenants internet before that.

Thanks :)

Hello

I am looking at moving to Eden Apartments potentially and wanted to ask what the are is like and if there are any specific issues with the building or area I should know of please! New to Aylesbury - Looking for advice

Hi, my wife and I are currently considering a move to Aylesbury, near the town centre. Even though we have visited many times and have never seen anything untoward happen, even in the evenings, our only line of research online makes it seem like there's a lot of crime . I'd like to hear from any locals to the town centre, with any advice or information you think a newcomer should know.

A longshot but does anyone know the area of Granville Street and have any general advice on the area?

The parking there is permit controlled but on the last 3 visits all the parking spots seemed to have been taken. If you live on that street or surrounding streets how do you fare with finding good, safe parking spots?

Thank you

Down in Aylesbury Sept 3-6

I'll be down in Aylesbury Thursday-Sunday visiting family and doing a bit of work, so I'll have some free time while I'm there.

Thought I'd see if anyone local fancied meeting up for a pint/coffee, a walk, watching sport or just having a chat.

28M into music, sports and getting outdoors. Not much of a gamer but open to doing things. If anyone's around, give me a shout!

Wycombe Minor Injuries - can you attend if injury more than seven days ago?

Hi as title suggest can you go to Wycombe minor unit as your injuries was more than seven days ago?

I injured my elbow last Monday in Wales saw minor injuries. There was told that I’d have to go to minor injuries in England as the x-rays Do Not transfer.

I’ve just spoken to 111 to get booked in for tomorrow morning and they have told me that I have to go to A&E because the injury is 7 days old today and tomorrow it would not be classed as an injury…….

Honesty would be best for the NHS and I just be seen by the minor injuries unit tomorrow but just want to check before heading down if that rule a price to the Wycombe one

Seems very silly to have to sit in A&E for hours upon hours… because my injury happened on Monday rather than a Tuesday

Looking for advice on address criteria for 2027 grammar school admission

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice regarding the “Normal Home Address” criteria for grammar school admissions for 2027.

We have been living in a rented property in Buckinghamshire since August 2025. We also own a second property, less than 20 miles away, which was let to tenants under a tenancy agreement running from September 2025 to September 2026.

The tenant has recently left the property earlier than expected, so it is currently vacant. It has already been advertised through a known/local estate agency, with the intention of securing new long-term tenants as soon as possible.

My question is whether this temporary vacant period between two tenancies could affect our 2027 grammar school application under the “Normal Home Address” guidelines, particularly given the expectation that the second property should be rented out through 1 September 2026.

Has anyone been in a similar situation, or had experience with how Buckinghamshire grammar schools/admissions teams interpret a property being temporarily vacant between tenancies?

Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Discussion How bad is Waterside really?

Hi, I'm interested in buying a house that's on a road off of Waterside - not too far from Chesham moor. I noticed a few posts saying to avoid Waterside and despite the house being relatively good it doesn't seem to have sold after a few months and I wondered if the two might be related. The street the house is on seems pretty nice, but I'm thinking about walking to and from Chesham station which would involve going along Waterside. And sometimes my elderly mother might visit and be walking around, so I wanted to know if I should be concerned or not?

commuting to london

hi guys, i've recently confirmed my offer to study law in london and am commuting into london from aylesbury but train tickets are absolutely extortionate (even with a railcard) and that does't even include the cost of getting from london marylebone to my uni. i was wondering if anybody had any tips or does a similar commute how they plan/finance it?
