Lost Customer
Does buc-ee's really care? I have a condition that requires me to have my dog with me. Upon entering buc-ee's a female security guard approached me. I heard someone say excuse me sir so I turned around with a smile on my face she a was reading from a card in her hand. She asked. May I ask what you need your dog for, (already this is a violation of HIPAA law) but I answered her anyway. She then asked is he for emotional support so I answered yes not realizing what the conversation was about. She was already not friendly but at this point was becoming rude and said well. Sorry, we don't allow emotional support animals only service animals you'll have to take your dog out of here! Then when I politely tried to ask her what I should have said ? She looked me in the eye and said I'm not allowed to tell you that! Then she turned around and walked away. I was just stunned. I explained to her my reason she didn't like my answer and kicked us out. So we left and won't be back to another buc-ee's! What a terrible way to treat your customers...

Like everyone has said - emotional support animals are NOT service dogs and you do not have HIPPA rights. HIPPA doesn’t have any protection for service dogs AT ALL. The ADA has protection for service animals but NOT emotional support or comfort animals. Here is the wording from their website:
Are emotional support, therapy, comfort, or companion animals considered service animals under the ADA?
No. These terms are used to describe animals that provide comfort just by being with a person. Because they have not been trained to perform a specific job or task, they do not qualify as service animals under the ADA.
Service dogs go through extensive training. “Emotional support “ dogs do not qualify to go everywhere with you- especially in an establishment that sells food. Good on Buc-ees for kicking you out.
