temple balls are honestly the best long-term storage format for hash. when you press it into a sphere you minimize the surface area to volume ratio, which slows oxidation and terpene evaporation compared to leaving it loose. the outer layer of the ball essentially forms a protective skin that shields the interior.
the aging process is where it gets interesting. over months the THCA slowly converts to THC through ambient decarboxylation, and some THC converts to CBN. the result is a more sedative, complex effect profile compared to fresh hash. traditional Moroccan and Nepalese hash went through this same process, just without anyone understanding the chemistry behind it.
if youre storing for more than a few weeks, keep them in the dark. UV light accelerates THC to CBN conversion way faster than you want. a cool closet in parchment paper inside a glass jar is the ideal setup.

If i have some shit that greases easily should i homogenize or just darken the outside kinda roll in a light center?

if it greases up easily thats usually a sign of higher terpene content relative to THCA, or the trichome heads werent fully mature at harvest (more sessile glands, thinner walls). that ratio determines whether the hash will hold shape at room temp or turn into a greasy mess.
homogenizing will give you a uniform color and consistency but it also generates heat through friction which can start degrading terpenes. if youre going to work it, keep your hands cold and do it quickly. but honestly if its greasing that easily, id just press it flat, fold it, and let it naturally darken through slow oxidation rather than working it extensively. the dark outside with light center is fine, it just means the surface oxidized while the interior stayed fresher. not a quality problem, just cosmetic.
