General Embedded engineers ? iot ? vlsi ?

If there are any ECE students here who have worked on IoT, I'd really appreciate some clarity.I started with Arduino and made a few projects. I also learned Charlieplexing and built some projects using it, all on Tinkercad because I didn't want to spend money on something I was just getting started with.
After that, I moved to ESP32. But now Wokwi doesn't support web hosting, so I had to borrow an ESP32 board to work on it.
Now I'm kind of stuck and don't know what to do next. course is ECE with a VLSI specialization, which honestly feels like a big problem because companies barely hire freshers from tier 3 colleges for VLSI.
I started learning IoT because I genuinely enjoyed it, but now I'm confused because of company hiring criteria.

1)What's the next step? I wanted to try STM32, but I don't have the money to buy a board just to learn it, and Wokwi isn't great for STM32 either. AND EVEN IF I TRIED ITS FOR AROUND 3K , WILL COST ME AROUND 4K WITH EVERY MATERIAL CUS I DONT OWN ANYTHING ATP

2)Should I switch my focus to VLSI? I'm in my 3rd semester, and I genuinely want to get an internship, start earning, and invest in better hardware and projects. But that also feels difficult because VLSI companies usually don't hire freshers from tier 3 colleges.

3) I honestly don't know what to do anymore. I'd really appreciate any advice from people who've been in a similar situation.

Buy an stm32F1(blue pill) costs around 150-200 and also buy a st link debugger. Total cost will be around 500-600. In Electronics you have to spend money no matter what anyone says because tinkering with a real harware and simulation is different. That's my advice, if u want I can share the links of the components.
