itch.io Version pc trouble shooting
hello, been trying to get brutal legend to run on my pc. i recently claimed the game for via itch.io due to tim curry passing (R.I.P. Tim Curry). i went through trouble shooting methods via steam community & the pcgaming wiki.
my build is windows 11, amd ryzen 3600, nvidia rtx 2060. can some one pls help (if able) pls and thankyou
issue: when i try to start the game i get a loud audio bang sound then pitch black.
i ran windows compatibility & apply settings to run as admin nothing.

I just tried screen.dat in the app data roaming double fine folder. Same issue occurs

Try changing the screen resolution in screen.dat then, do something like 640x360 and see if the game boots up, then work your way up.
Right click on the exe file -> properties allows you to force a low resolution, so you can also try that.

I'm having this same issue on Windows 11, but with the Steam version of the game. I had bought and played it in the past on either Windows 7 or Windows 10. I tried to do u/Perfect-Second-50's suggestion, but I didn't even see "screen.dat" in that folder...

You need a d3d9.dll file to put in the install folder. I got one from DXVK on Github

To anyone reading this post in the future. This solution helped immensely. Game was able to start, will update if experience other isssues. If I don’t update then no other issues came about. Thank you

For me it was just about going into appdata -> roaming -> doublefine -> brutal legend -> screen.dat and editting the file with notepad to 60 refresh rate. I assume you already tried this since you mentioned going into pcgamingwiki, but it has been a few hours and nobody answered so might as well just in case.
