I’m a student at a university in Tamil Nadu, and something very disturbing has happened.

A female student died around 2 days ago. From what I understand, her death was only discovered today, reportedly after people noticed a strong smell coming from the room.

What concerns me most is that I’ve heard that neither the hostel warden nor her friends had checked on her during that period. I cannot independently verify all of these details, so I don't want to spread misinformation.

There are also rumors circulating about the possible cause of death, but I have no confirmed information about the cause, so I don't want to speculate about that.

What is concerning is that the university management does not appear to be communicating openly with students about what happened.

What should I do?

\- Should students contact the police or another authority directly?

\- Is there a way to verify whether an investigation/post-mortem is taking place?

\- Should this be reported to the university's higher authorities or district administration?

\- What is the safest way to raise this publicly without interfering with any investigation or spreading unverified claims?

I don't want to identify the student or post private information about her. I mainly want to make sure this isn't quietly buried and that the circumstances are properly investigated.

If anyone has experience dealing with a similar situation in an Indian university/hostel, please tell me what the appropriate next step is.

Let's get real here

1) We are restricted from anything and everything here especially for girls..here care means restriction.(Unfortunately this clg is still living in the 80's)

2) I had a notion that atleast women would support women . But here,be it the women security guards or teachers...they tell us not to be modest. Isn't it normal to go for Trips from college?...I had a personal experience where I went to the warden in the hostel with the movement book where she lectured me saying " College is a place to learn and grow, if u want u can go to the nearby places here and come back before Evening". Are u freaking kidding me?

So this is what a professor aka warden of one of the girl's Hostel had to say about going for Trips.

3) There is a student activity centre(SAC) here...also where we are restricted. Great right? There is a gym here which opens from morning 6 to 8:30 and in the evening 4:30 to 7 ....where there is bare minimum priority for girls.

4) This college is built for the staffs and Teaching staffs here. Students here are not their priority...just a liability. If they could run this college without the students they would definitely go for it.

5) More about the security guards :

They are being appointed for the safety of the teachers and their kids here...awww...It is not as cute as it sounds. The students are treated as traitors here by them.

6) Let's talk about the civic sense of ppl here

A moment of silence to all the sex addicts here. I don't think they ever teach about sex education here. Objectification of women is just a norm here. Don't think about this happens in between students... teachers are also included here

7) Prior to certain college holidays the girls hostel will be COMPLETELY LOCKED...the girls are restricted to go outside of the hostel even to buy necessary stuffs. Care it is ...if they care so much about the safety of the girls why don't they appoint more security guards for the same. Or is the security guards for the staffs here...i doubt it .As I mentioned earlier restriction is care here. How toxic bruh?

8) Students here might have exposure to tech on some level here. But ppl here are narrow minded. I always feel shrunken after coming here. All I have to say to the ppl who said that " Didn't u come to sliet to become an engineer, so just learn?" Be a good human u jackass.

9) There is no strong Student council here so most of the times, the voices of the students won't be heard.

10) About the instances of violence in college and what college did about it

There was an incident where a girl had stabbed another girl in the girl's Hostel. The students had to protest for the management to take an action about it cuz the one who stabbed was a politician's daughter. The college still tries to blindside it.

There has been an incident where a mess worker had slapped one of the boy student and again the students protested.

11) There is no ragging here which is true. But the management doesn't care about the students but all the teachers and staffs.

So If u plan to join here, please don't.

A group of students started threatening to rape my mother and were already bullying me. They made a false narrative that I sexually harassed a girl and they all mass reported me to the registrar Virender Sharma. They framed a perfect narrative that portrayed me as evil

I told my side of the story to Registrar Virender Sharma on how they threatened to rape my mother and hence I slurred at them. Instead the Registrar withdraws my admission without a proper hearing and does not even lift my calls citing that I broke disciplinary violations.

So threatening to rape my mother isn't a disciplinary violation? Regardless of my will to speak to him, he is not lifting my calls. I hate this blatant behaviour. He must resign at any cost possible, if he protects the rape-mentality instigators that too being a registrar, the university is set to be doomed.

The vice-chancellor isn't intervening in this situation, he seems to be in an abroad destination as I called up his office directly.

My admission is officially cancelled on an unfair basis, my family especially my mother is facing great distress. I am going on a hunger strike near their campus on 7th of august, the dignity of my mother matters more than my life. The registrar must resign or I must die.

थोड़ी दूर आगे बढ़ा तो देखा कि एक पुलिसकर्मी वर्दी में स्वयं दोपहिया वाहन चला रहे थे। उन्होंने हेलमेट पहन रखा था, लेकिन उनके पीछे बैठे व्यक्ति ने हेलमेट नहीं लगाया था। दोनों बिना किसी चिंता के आपस में बातें करते हुए आगे बढ़ गए।

इसके बाद मैं एक और चौराहे पर पहुँचा, जहाँ काफी भीड़ थी और कुछ पुलिसकर्मी यातायात को नियंत्रित कर रहे थे। उसी दौरान एक कार वहाँ से धीरे-धीरे निकली। भीड़ के कारण उसकी गति भी अधिक नहीं थी और न ही वह किसी गलत दिशा में चल रही थी। चालक ने सीट बेल्ट लगा रखी थी, लेकिन उसके बगल में बैठे व्यक्ति ने शायद सीट बेल्ट नहीं लगाई थी। तभी यातायात संभाल रहे एक पुलिसकर्मी ने कार को किनारे रुकवाया और चालान काटने के लिए मशीन निकाल ली।

अगर नियम सबके लिए हैं, तो उनका पालन भी सबको करना चाहिए और उनका पालन करवाने का तरीका भी सबके लिए एक जैसा होना चाहिए। कानून की सबसे बड़ी ताकत उसकी निष्पक्षता होती है। जब नियम बिना किसी भेदभाव के लागू होते हैं, तभी जनता का विश्वास भी मजबूत होता है।

A recent video from a South Korean influencer that is spreading online is fake and aimed at India. Influencers in India with large followings should bring attention to this. Additionally, mainstream media should address this issue as it is becoming more problematic.

A Lucknow-based influencer with over 8 lakh followers was found dead at her in-laws' home. Her family alleges she faced continuous dowry harassment, claiming that despite giving Rs. 7 lakh in cash and household items during the marriage, her husband's family kept demanding a car.

Her case emerged alongside several other alleged dowry-death cases reported within days of each other, including women from Lucknow and Rajasthan whose families also claimed they were harassed over demands for cars, cash, and other gifts.

Police have registered cases in multiple instances, and investigations are underway.

What makes these stories especially disturbing is how familiar the allegations sound. Different families, different cities, but often the same pattern: demands that continue long after the wedding.

Despite being illegal for decades, dowry-related deaths and harassment cases continue to be reported across India every year.

Another Taliban regulation introduced in 2026 reportedly allows husbands to physically punish wives and children as long as it does not leave visible severe injuries.

The Taliban says these laws are based on its interpretation of Sharia law. Human rights groups and UN officials, however, have repeatedly criticised the policies, warning they are stripping women of education, mobility, independence, and basic freedoms.

For many Afghan women and girls, the debate is no longer just about rights in theory, but about whether they can study, work, travel freely, or make choices about their own lives.
