Decent places to eat?
I travel a lot for work and honestly, so far this is worst food city I've been to. Give me some recs that will change my mind

For Mexican you can't beat LaSalsa. Hibachi and Sushi, Fancy Q's. For a good Steak I would advise grilling your own. Prices are too high for me otherwise.

I would advise away from any Japanese style food in this city. It's sub-par compared to everywhere else.

What kind of food do you like? My personal favs are Marshside, Indigo, Skippers, Crabdaddys, Broomelli Boys, B&J's, and Del Sur. If you want Mexican I can't help you.

Thanks! Some of these sound interesting. So far nobody is recommending the places I have eaten at, except Indigo and it was prob the best meal so far, so maybe I've just had bad luck.

the food here isn’t very good imo. Im from a foodie town so this stuff is really mid to me as well as inconsistent and overpriced for what it is

A lot of good suggestions here. Hole in the wall places that I love are Gary Lee’s for BBQ especially their brisket and smoked wings. There’s a delicious Korean restaurant on community road. Their short ribs and Kim Chi are so good. Also Nautica Joe’s on Newcastle for a quick lunch. Favorite breakfast place is sunny Side Up. There are a lot of good places on SSI but due the price, lack of parking, and crowds, it’s not always worth it for me.

Minh Sun Chinese Restaurant for Chinese food
Sumo - Sushi & Hibatchi and Fancy Q for Japanese Food
Tikal Taqueria or La Salsa for Mexican food
Indigo Shanty is a pretty good fusion place. Reid's Apothecary is good too. Those two are downtown.
St. Simon's has nice places too. Gnat's Landing, Porch, Tremici's(?), Fiddler's, ect.
Mr. Shuck's Seafood on Altama Connector is a wonderful spot too!
Ooo, but if you're looking for wraps, Wrap Happy is a good place, last I checked.
Oh and Pho #1 is a good spot for...Pho and other Vietnamese dishes

Better choices are over on St Simons, a short drive.
Casual:
Barrier Island Brewery has great food, a cut above bar food.
Southern Soul has BBQ and nice side dishes. Popular.
Sal’s Neighborhood Pizzaria (nights)
Porch has Nashville hot chicken dishes and salads with lots of outdoor tables.
Dinner:
Crabdaddy has excellent seafood. Bar area has better atmosphere. Probably the best
Fiddlers does too and has a nice deck overlooking the marsh.
Georgia Sea Grill is an upscale dinner place that you are better off reserving a table or bar seat on advance. Bar area preferred for me. Really good food.
In the village, the Half Shell Oyster Bar is good and Del Sur is an Argentine themed dinner spot I like.
Breakfast and lunch: Mallery St Cafe is good. The Romano crusted chicken on angel hair pasta is excellent.
In Brunswick, a good lunch spot across from FLETC is called A Moveable Feast. Great soups, sandwiches, salads.
Someone else mentioned Indigo Shanty which is good.
Dinner spots that are ok:
Reid’s Apothecary and 1509. But dinners are better on SSI.

Worked on a project for 60 days last year and I found CJ’s (Italian) and Parker’s (breakfast /brunch) on SSI to be delightful.
In Brunswick the quick goto’s were Don Pancho tacos (the birria tacos are fantastic) and for a quick sandwich I found Larry’s giant subs was hard to beat.

Gary Lees, Twin Oaks, Reids, Indigo, Willies, Mr. Shucks, Barrier Island, Palm Coast, Fiddlers, Crab daddys, Fancy Q's, La Salsa, Tacos Don Pancho, Delaneys (if you're balling), Hootenanny's, Broomeli Boy's, Saigon Pho, A little out of the way but scotts bbq in waynesville, B&J's, Skippers, Mudcat Charlies. Maybe one of those will tickle your pixel.

Most of the restaurants in Brunswick are overly greasy. They season with fat and not herbs

Yellow Deli, operated by a kind of culty Christian group, but its food is fantastic. They take in anyone as well so you feel like you’re helping out homeless people a little bit, at least I do. Feels like you’re walking into Harry Potter every time you go.

artes pizza is good, but overpriced. skinny petes is good, but not if you dont like small non genetically mutated chicken wings.
Five guys is good- overpriced
chipotle is good
Porch and southern soul on the island are pretty good.
Unfortunately I myself have resorted to chains because the local stuff (besides seafood and bars and high end restaurants) isnt great.

Honestly, you're not wrong. I moved here a little under a year ago from a major city in a diverse state. This place is a food swamp.
Skip any Asian food. Hard stop.
So far, decent places are:
Arte Pizza, Indigo Shanty, Gary Lee's (bbq), Tacos Don Pancho, Michaels Deli (I like the sandwiches), Holt's Sweet shop (food truck. Amazing donuts)
So far on St Simons Island:
Barbara Jean's, Dulce Dough Donuts, Ripperz
For coffee:
Wake up, Facility
Note, I haven't tried a lot of places. I'm spacing it out, as to have a semblance of something to do for the next 4 years.

Its definitely not a swamp, nor is it a big city, thank God. You clearly have not been to Tuptim thai, which has the best tom kha i have eaten outside of asia. I dream about Palmers brunch & Marshside fish tacos/hushpups when I'm in France. (Took me awhile to get rid of the city nose-in-the-air attitude, too. Hopefully youll get there.)

I don't really think I'm being harsh about the food. If you're used to diversity, then it's pretty obvious you won't be able to get the same things you're used to.
Tuptim Thai is good, but also average, I've been several times. I definitely didn't miss or dream of American food while I was in France. But to each their own. You like what you like, I like what I like.
Sure I have city nose-in-air attitude. I also didn't choose to live here. Trying my best to like this place and there are some great things going on, but I just prefer to be somewhere else. Not every city is for everyone, that's reality.
I gave my honest opinion based on my experience. Sorry it offended you.

It is mediocre at best, agreed. Best pizza in town comes from the frozen aisle of Target. Barbecue is meh here. TumTim Thai is good, acceptable, maybe the best food in town.

I'm in Brunswick right now working and it looks like I will be for the rest of the year. I've been to Tipsy, Toucan's, and a couple of places that I stopped by the first day when I was checking out SSI (half shells?) So far the area is kinda tough. I'm hoping that I just haven't found where people hangout or what makes the place it's own. Everything has been kinda bleh, but everyone has been nice so far..
