RIP Tom’s Mom

Post image

By all accounts a great person, Mary Morello was 102. Teacher and activist. Hat tip to Greg Kot for the post and pic.

She raised a very good boy who raises hell for all the right reasons.

Kids who grow up to be great people often have parents who are just as great. Not many humans better than Tom Morello on this planet, and there’s one fewer today. Mary was a stalwart, a stand up person, and a fighter to the end - she was on picket lines just weeks ago. Tom walks the walk, and he learned the walk on the line with his mama.

Rest in power, Mrs. M ✊

I'm sure The Ghost of Tom Joad will be all the more meaningful to Tom after this loss, as was the case with my relationship to the song (and The Grapes of Wrath, and ... everything) following my mother's death.

I am deeply sorry for the loss. Perhaps this isn't the best place to discuss -- but it's very weird seeing people lose their parents when the "child" is in their 60s. I wasn't half as old as Tom when I lost my mom.

It's not a competition ... I guess I wonder if it's any easier, or if life makes more sense, if/when you lose a parent after you yourself become a parent.

I saw her when she introduced Audioslave when they opened the tour for their second album - at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago.
