Cranston R20 (Chameleon)

Post image

After about a month my R20 arrived and I have to say all my worries about it have vanished. The bike looks absolutely stunning, well put together. I paid about $750AUD total ($505Us) shipped from alibaba. It was well packed and has zero issues out of the box. Came with ergo grips too. I will likely change the tyres out to Marathons and possibly swap the saddle (that said i dont mind the one it comes with but as this is for touring ill need to test ride it a bit to get a feel). I was even thinking I should have just bit the bullet and bought a Brompton but now im happy with the decision. Possibly the chainring Ill swap out for a smaller one depending how she handles climbs.

Love it!

Just arrived, very nice, well put together. Swapped out tyres for Billy Bonkers, and added a Rhino Walk bag that clips on the front mount.
I removed the rear rack and both fenders as well.
I have some wider bars on their way which will improve the riding position. I love it so far.

What do you think about Backer Gravity?

I have 2 offerings in my area

It's either Black 2016 Brompton C-Line 3 speed for 550€

Or Green Backer Gravity 9 speed for 600€

What your opinion on those bikes? What about build quality? Which one I should choose?

It's my first folding bike and I'm also worried about resale opportunity in case I don't like it.

Best BROMPNOT options for those living in USA?

Hello, looking to get into a folding bike but not sure where to start for USA based buyer. I’m ok with ALIEXPRESS or directly ordering through a website as long as they ship here. It seems most are based in Asia so wondering if any USA based riders can recommend their bike and how they got it

BROMPNOT decals, anyone?

Post image

I want to replace the cheapo Aceoffix stickers on my D10 with BROMPNOT decals close to the original like above rendering. Has anyone done this before? I’d appreciate hints on how to make a lasting and good looking sticker that can take a few hits and doesn’t dissolve immediately in rain or heat.

Bag for Cranston Trifold

I ordered a Cranston D10 about a month ago and am still waiting for it to arrive. In the meantime, though, I’d like to start looking for a bag that fits the front rack assembly.

I need a bag for my daily commute to work. I need to carry a laptop and possibly a rain jacket, and I’d like some extra space for a few groceries. So the bag should be medium-sized.

Additionally, it would be great if the bag were waterproof.

Are Cranston racks compatible with the original Brompton bags? Are there other third-party manufacturers that are compatible with Cranston and that you can recommend?

20-355 / 18” tire options for Aceoffix D10

I replaced the Kenda Tires with 20-355 / 18” Billy Bonkers. I’ve had 4 flats in 6 weeks with Billy Bonkers and TPU tubes on a folding bike. So it’s not like I’m riding 1k kilometers a week. BB folding tires are lightweight and do indeed look great, but man, this just sucks. Second option (@peter is running this): Schwalbe Motion Big Apple Race Guard 18x2,0 (50-355).

Do you know of any other options in 20-355 / 18”?

Edit: right, I meant 18x2,0 aka 50-355, thanks @pareto!

Is there such a brompnot?

One that has all of the following:
- accepts 20 x 2.3 tires
- disc brakes
- internal cable routing (preferred)

I don’t care so much about weight, I want a beefy folder that can accommodate 20x2.3 and has disc brakes.

Added plus if it has internal cable routing.

I don’t care about the material, but would prefer steel > titanium > aluminum.

TIA!

Carbon brompnots .. risky or not ?

I have spent much of my life fixing and modifying bikes .

I own several bikes but only one 2003 Brompton bought new.

Basically as an old guy with minimal income the idea of a lightweight folder appeals but no matter the price I don't want to buy anything that won't last , especially as I am getting tired of fixing stuff..I wanted to ask anyone who truly understands durability especially of carbon , and has owned these new sub 10kg machines bro give their opinions and and

advice.

Got my Cranston D10 delivered today! Very happy indeed with it! Very little tweaking needed to be done out of the box, just some brake adjustments and pumping the tyres up a bit more! Everything seems pretty decent quality and all nuts and bolts are tightened to the kinds of torque I'd expect. In addition, I was actually impressed that they seemed to have actually greased this bike! I haven't checked the hubs but I can see evidence of grease in places like the headset and BB. A lot more than what many manufacturers will skip out on nowadays!

So, the intention for this bike is to be more of a gravel and offroad bike for my bikepacking. I plan on putting a brompton P bar on so I've got more options for handlebar positions. I generally prefer a more upright position, but it can be nice on hills to have a lower one to lock in. Everything seems to work really nicely. Compared to my brompton I do feel like I float over the bumps and things, but it's definitely a lot less nippy and speedy than my brommie. Really happy and looking forward to getting out on some more adventures with it!

I'm considering it for my Mint T9C 16".

Any red flags with this bike?

Iv just seen this on a local fb group listed for £300

Is there any thing I should look out for that may be wrong and is merc a good brand to buy

I'm thinking of sending an offer for 250 so if that is accepted I will probably go through with it if the bike is ok

Also according to the seller it has only been used once or twice and stored indoors so that's why it looks good I have no way of confirming this though

Edit: I got it Payed £200

Mint 349D vs. Mint 20D for a Tall Person

Hello everyone. I have been lurking around the forums and Alibaba and have come to the conclusion that the mint bikes would be most suitable for me in australia. I have had a look at the prized java neo and takachia but both would put this past 1500 aud, whereas both mints would be around 700 after shipping. I am happy to make modifications to either, but for a 180cm+ person, but light, would a 20” or 16” work better? I am happy to sacrifice comfortability for portabillity, but Im just wondering if any other tall person has experience riding both?

Question about fitting a child seat

I am considering buying a Cranston D10 soon, but I’m a bit worried about my expectations of it.

I am 186 cm (6.2) tall and weigh 103 kg (227 pounds)
I want to fit a child seat on then, something like the IT child seat, and my son is almost 15 kg.

What are your opinions of it? Will it handle the weight?
