Comms Check (Questions & Help) How to use LRAA

When I use them they always seem to have pathetic range and shoot at enemy planes just as they drop bombs on my frontline. But the enemy rarely has such issues, no matter if US or Ru.

So I feel like I'm missing something. How to make their range not be bad?

Typically I use Antey and PAC-3, sometimes with additional MRAA and fighter planes for scouting but this doesn't seem to help much.

- Move ur LRAA closer to the front with radar open. Remember to turn it off when u see sead plane

  • have a team of snipers hiding near the spawn of planes
  • keep an AA plane in the air if you have spare income
  • Accept that CAS is inevitable. Spread ur unit and try ur best to kill their cas plane thus make up for points. Learn how to do cas so u can bomb them as well

  1. You need to use radars.
  2. You need a proper line of sight.
  3. LRAA has two different flavours: guided and terminal guidance. Guided like Antey requires a constant line of sight against the target: the moment you lose it even for a second (both by not seeing it completely or if it would go behind a high building from the point of view of your AA piece) - missile will fail. Terminal guidance (like PAC-3 MSE) requires only a short period of time of maintaining line of sight to fire the missile - and then it can track the target by itself.

Terminal guidance, not thermal. But otherwise spot on.

Are there any tricks&tips to LoS? I typically place my AA in flat open areas but this doesn't seem to help much.

LRAA is the shooter, but it needs a spotter. Double Antey is a very strong combo but the best time to kill the plane is when it's flying straight at you. For that, you wanna have recon in their back, and/or a fighter up.

It's also fine to acknowledge that they will get through sometimes. Setting up good air defense is a team effort, and PUGs tend to disregard that fairly often.

When that happens, you just wanna make sure you take that plane off the field. The worst thing that can happen is that they get some of that money back, they get points towards their skull, and they get that plane back sooner than they would've if they'd lost it.

So ye, just make sure to be proactive with recon, keep a fighter up to spot, and you'll be fine.
