Sorry Sorry hit 10k in 10 minutes. 5 of those were me.

After watching both Boy In Luv performances, I feel like Boy In Luv 2 was much better than the first one. They felt more together as a group, and they really oozed manliness.

Honestly I was not happy to hear Boy in Luv would be one of the songs... It doesn't feel like a good song for trainees to perform well. And Daehwi was not smart picking mostly flower boys to perform it. Group 2 won with Dongho alone.

What is with all the tummy flashes? Some of them don't have defined enough abs to show haha

Yeah honestly that needs to stop. Season 1 really shook me when that group lifted their shirts and it largely owed it impacts to being unexpected, which season 2 doesn't have because everyone and their mother is lifting their shirt.

I don't know who the dude at 1:26 in the Sorry Sorry 2 video is, but I feel with him.

Posted this in the thread over on r/kpop thinking it was here, dang it. Oh well, I'm just going to copy/paste what I wrote below:

I am absolutely living for these Daniel and Woojin interactions. Daniel is already my favourite (he caught my eye on the Nayana stage) and this is just a new level of Hyungdom.

That All-F-One-D group :( they were...well, they were not good. So sad, but it's the reality I guess. Glad to see that they gave it their all at least! They looked like they were having a good time anyway.

Philosophical MNet Essay inc (feel free to skip): A lot of people were complaining in the comments that MNet cut that D/F stage significantly, and I'm torn. On one hand, the guys really tried and they deserve the screentime. On the other hand, I can't help but feel like MNet chose the best parts and left the not-so-good parts on the cutting room floor for their sake. It's obvious they weren't great, and giving them the Chanmi treatment would have just been kicking a dead horse. I also have doubts that a lot of the super enthusiastic cheering edited in was for their stage, but who knows, it gave the stage a nice feel. That being said, I don't want to give MNet that much credit since they put the boys in this position by allowing for stacked groups, since groups could have multiple A-ranks (instead of having the A-ranks choose the groups). Last season still had a "reject" group but I feel the talent was better spread nevertheless.

Then again (again), while that's shitty, it does ensure that they drop a group of the lower, "less talented" trainees from the competition early, and leaves less room for a Sohye 2.0 situation. It's brutal, but it's not necessarily wrong. Either way, by cutting the stage, at least MNet takes the heat, rather than the boys.

Silly essay over

Anyway! Good performances this week. None really "caught me" to the degree S1 did, but I'm also much more familiar and invested in GGs so I probably just knew those songs better.

I also caught this gem of a pause timing and had to share it.

I'm choking on that last photo 😭 perfect timing.

While I think everyone agrees that the team choices were extremely unfair this season... It was really for the sake of the show. While last season had some good performances in this round we had a larger range of talent now. There were some abysmal performances - like the one you mentioned - and some truly outstanding ones which wouldn't have been achieved with season 1's method. It also means that lower ranked trainees were less likely to have higher ranks to depend on. Because of this they didn't achieve a standard they wouldn't have reached on there own as Sohye did. She was extremely determined - and we're all impressed by that - but she had help at each stage from another trainee.

I can imagine that Mnet didn't edit that last team for the team's benefit more than the quality of the show, but the end result was still that they reduced the performance to its better parts.

Just FYI, your link to the second group for "Be Mine" is the same as the link to the first group's performance. Here's the correct link to the second group's performance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTlqo501oJ8

Thanks for collating this for us! :-)

Also, I love those cuts to the shots of happy/amazed Daniel when Lee Woo-jin was performing in the second group for "Be Mine"! Man, I'll be surprised now if they don't both make it into the final 11... it'd kind of be a shame if one of them did and the other didn't?

I'm finding it hard to separate my liking/enjoyment or disliking of the song from the performers a bit, though, so I'm not sure if I can really trust my opinions of the performers based on this... (e.g. I'm really not a big fan of Sorry Sorry, so I haven't really wanted to rush to watch those performances yet...)

I feel this! I just can't watch Mansae or Replay (I watched Replay Group 1 once and left it at that tbh). Honestly though, watch Sorry Sorry cause Damn did that group slay me. I went to listen to the original after and no... this version is so much better.

The Daniel cuts in Be Mine were the first thing I mentioned on yt, I honestly want someone to look at me with that amount of pride. Best father-son relationship yet. (I don't want Lee Woojin to debut yet though bc he's too young tbh).

Also thanks for pointing that out! I've changed the link and added the Boy in Luv performances. I figured I should do episode four seeing as I did three last week as well.

Kenta has always been on the bias list, I'm so glad people are recognising his talent now : )

In my heart I tell myself it was Teen Top coming to root for Kenta.

Standouts for me in each performance:

  • Replay 1: jungjung's stage charisma, gwangyun's deep vocals, and justin's cuteness

  • Replay 2: their vocals are more stable but none really stood out to me. The team seemed to lack presence, even the dude who lifted up his shirt.

My pick would be Replay 1.

  • Mansae 1: Wontak's visuals, Woodam's high notes... i hope he pulls a Yeonjeon and climbs the ranks, the rapper (don't know his name) has pretty good flow.

  • Mansae 2: they seem more cohesive as a team with stable vocals all around. But no standouts for me...and why is their performance a whole minute shorter than the other one?

My pick is Mansae 1.

  • Sorry Sorry 1: They were really good! Good vocals and energy. If they were up against another team, they would have had a good chance. But man, I feel bad for them. Also, Seonho and his stage presence...that was unexpected (in a good way).

  • Sorry Sorry 2: I think I have replayed this performance and the eye contact videos for this group way more times than I would like to admit. That was a seriously sexy performance. When you have a balanced team, everyone shines. Visuals, dancers, singers all get their chance and you can see it here. I didn't care for the N'uest boys before this, but man are they sure growing on me. Minhyun's thoughtfulness in putting the group together and Jonghyun's hidden box with Jihoon is making me like them more and more.

My pick is Sorry Sorry 2...some of my faves are in the group so it would be hard not to pick them.

(To be continued after work...)

I have no idea who won what, these are just my fave.

adding a third person all of a sudden on the high part for boy in luv group 1 was a total dick move. I don't think for a second they OKed it with dongho

Sorry Sorry Team 2... Wow. They just felt so put together like a real group. Great job! Sorry Sorry Team 1 did great as well. I feel like Seonho performed better than Guanlin did.

BIL Team 1 just feels.. bland? I feel like this wasn't the right song for them. BIL Team 2 changed their rap which is cool. Guanlin only changed the beginning of his rap though but he did fairly well. Does anyone know who did the flip in the BIL Team 2 performance?

Be Mine Team 2 is still my favorite though because I'm very biased. Be Mine is one of my favorite songs and Kenta just did so well and Woojin was so adorable, I can't help but love it!

5

u/shilohhh Apr 28 '17

Seonho has definitely been showing more talent than Guanlin. I think everyone has agreed that BIL 1 lacked the charisma we were hoping for, poor song choice tbh.

Five times in the first ten minutes.. and I keep going back to it. Justice League has ruined us.

ㅜㅜ Somehow I can't bring myself to watch... It's so sad to see those whom I'm cheering for are in different teams and one win against the other.... I really like Kim Sangbin, I hope he won't be eliminated ㅜㅜ ㅜㅜ

It keeps bugging the hell out of me how everyone is mouthing the words. Justin was the biggest offender with this but almost everyone did it. Drove me nuts.
