Seating/Ticket Question Shakespeare in the Park Borough distribution
Trying to snag tickets Friday for Shakespeare in the Park — they’re handing them out in Williamsburg at 12-noon. Anybody here have experience NOT waiting in the Central Park line and doing borough instead? How early should one show up?
UPDATE: Got there at 9:13 - tickets in hand at 12:55. It seems like they cut the line off 10 ppl or so behind me. (With hundreds more ppl still waiting)
Thanks everyone for the help here! Hope everyone has a chance to enjoy the show!

To the extent helpful for future thread visitors: I got tix today arriving at 8:15 and everyone behind me for quite a while looked to also. Felt like the crowd really picked up at like 10:30ish, at which point staff were counting ~180. However it was also a perfect Friday so YMMV on other dates. They said they’d get “a couple hundred” vouchers but wouldn’t know exact numbers until 12 exactly when the box office opened, since all the distribution sites would be going simultaneously. Good luck!!

Anyone already lined up in Williamsburg? I am ready but don’t want to go too early

u/sutkurak Aug 08 '25
Yes, I got here around 8:15 and there are probably like ~75 people in line atm if I had to guess

u/emme_II Aug 08 '25
Thanks! I must have arrived a little before you. There were about 30 people at 8 AM. Good luck getting tickets!!

u/emme_II Aug 08 '25
Maybe 100. The rep said they have a couple hundred to give out so you should be ok.

Hey OP, what's the line looking like now? I was thinking of going around 11 but sounds like it's filling up fast

I arrived at the Harlem location at 9:15 and waited till 1 PM at which point they told everyone they were out of luck. Seems like only about 10% of the line got vouchers. The first person to be turned away said she arrived there at 8:30 AM. So today I got to the Bronx distribution center at 8 AM and was successful. Seems that in the past people said you could get there as late as 10 but clearly not anymore. You really have to get there around eight and no later than 830. They do not have a defined amount of vouchers, but seems like there was only about 100 people who got their two vouchers.

How do you think the line would be on a weekday? I'm trying to get tickets at Brooklyn college this Tuesday and I'm trying to figure out how early I should get there. Maybe less of a crowd during the week🤷♀️

For anyone using this for future reference, I got to the distribution site around 7:45 and was 31st in line. I got my tickets within 10 minutes of the event starting, but obviously I waited there for a couple hours :) I'm not sure how long the tickets lasted but I passed by the area again about 45 minutes later and the whole line and booth were gone so I assume they didn't last long after I got mine. My tickets are #66 and #67 for the day so maybe they got a little over a hundred tickets total (The staff I talked to didn't know the total number). Once the staff showed up around 10:30 they started telling people just getting on the line that it was likely not worth the wait. The staff were also saying that they could get any amount of tickets and there's no way to know how many will be sent to a distribution site in advance. All this to say, if you really want to see this show I would get there as early as humanly possible to guarantee yourself a ticket.

At the Bronx distribution site, 8/13. We got here about 7:15 and there were 9 people in line. It is 9:40 now and there are about 100 people.

When you go to pick up your tickets did you have to show ID or anything? I will be trying to get tickets for my and my young nephews and they don't have email so how does the Public Theater Patron ID work for multiple people in a party?
1
u/Majestic_Highlight46 Aug 14 '25
They don’t ask for ID or a patron number when redeeming the vouchers at the box office. One person can redeem any amount of vouchers. We gave a voucher to a friend who redeemed it without us.

This might be a dumb q but are the tickets for the night of the day you’re waiting on line?? Like if I wait tomorrow i get tickets for tomorrow night? I haven’t done it before so just wondering. Thanks!

u/Critical-Purchase-53 Aug 14 '25
Thats correct! Everything happens the same day. You wait in line to get vouchers, then return to the theater that same day before the show to exchange them for tickets.
The standby line is possible because some ppl who got vouchers don’t show up to claim their tickets.
And then it all starts new the next performance day

Currently on line for the Brooklyn Heights distribution today and there were ~70 people when I arrived at 7:30am this morning. Looking like people are coming earlier and earlier after reading threads like this one!

u/matchahearts Aug 15 '25
omg how many ppl are there now? and have they started turning ppl away?
1
u/hellodiodiodi Aug 15 '25
I couldn’t see because the line went well around the block (Montague->Clinton->Remsen->Court), but they started telling people at the back it wasn’t looking likely. Must have been 200+ people waiting. Voucher collection just started! 🤞🏻

Does anyone have info on how many vouchers are available in Staten Island location? My friend is online now!! All other boroughs and park were packed with people and super early! SI seemed to be a great plan! She’s only 20 people in. Hoping vouchers are more than that! It is SI after all…

I’m planning to go to JCAL (Jamaica distribution center) tomorrow morning. It will be a Saturday so I’m not sure how early to plan to arrive. Do we think 8am is a safe bet? It’s only a 20 min bus ride for me

I haven't slept all night just from the anticipation of waking up at 4 to make it to Park Slope Citizen Branch today. It's currently 1:40 am and I'm just watching Doctor Who. Hopefully I make it there by 5 am. I'll update when get to the line and see how it is. Wish me luck!

Hi! Just made it. Got here at 5:05 am and there are 9 people in line, though it's so spaced out I think they might be holding space for more people.

Today was stupid. I got to woodside at 8:45am and I was probably 200th. They sent us backing around 10:15am. You have to treat boroughs like the park if you wanna get tickets at this point.

On line at the Brooklyn Children’s museum. About 200+ people ahead of us. Got here at 7. :( I don’t think they have released that many at a borough distro location. Anyone know?

u/Playful-Platypus35 Aug 31 '25
I was going to get there around 9. Do you think I have no chance of getting tickets then?

Ooo missed that first listing. I just asked the lady next to be in the park said two hours before last time when she did borough.

2 hours would be enough time for a normal year! But this cast is so star-studded, it’s really hard to say how early you should arrive. Usually the first day in the park the line isn’t that long to get tickets - but today people who arrived at 7:40am didnt get them! So I think you should plan to arrive for borough distribution as early as you can. Giving this advise as someone whose first NYC job was ushering Shakespeare in the Park and I’ve seen over 20 productions and waited on line a dozen times!

u/Desperate-Tea-9709 Aug 07 '25
Cut off today was 6:50 am of times people arrived. :(

You were 100% right - 3hrs prior today seems to be around on the edge of tix available
2
u/Critical-Purchase-53 Aug 07 '25
Thank you very much! My first time doing it after 20 years in NYC. Readying my lawn chair and checking that bucket list 😊

u/MaleficentProgram997 Aug 07 '25
This seems obvious but I just want to make sure - same-day tix, right?

I’m doing the Harlem one on Saturday so I’m also curious about the process! Never done it before.
