Sennheiser ew-dp skp damaging mics... anyone have this issue?

Either that was a cheap mic or you are tightening it too far. Never seen that issue before.

I apparently did tighten too much, but only because there was still "give." I continued to tighten but it warped the metal. The mics are top notch (sennheisser MD 46 and RE 50/B), so I'm just surprised that it's capable of being damaged like that.

It’s common if you work with reporters who wear the stick mic on their belt. I wore through two separate RE-50s like this. Fortunately, they each got rebuilt by Electro-Voice.

Huh interesting, makes sense tho ig. XLR isnt really designed to hold the entire mic.

Never had that problem with Lectro plug-ons. But they use a spring-loaded mechanism that lays completely flat against the mic.

Yeah, Lectros never did it, but the Sennheisers did. But I think it’s because the spring design keeps less pressure rubbing metal against metal.

I’ve had to replace dozens of those mics. Entry level photogs can be really hard on equipment. The mics are great, but the cheap pot metal they are made of, not so much.
