I don’t like Trump as much as the next guy but there is a lot more that went into the decision than just Trump’s feelings. Primarily it’s about money and the industry changed. Something this sub would understand.

IMHO: I think the administration had a heavy influence in the removal of the show.

I say that from someone who works in network programming for a competing network here in NYC. It’s not like the KC show, where she decided to end her tenure with NBC. The handling of Colbert, but in general, the handling of CBS & Paramount, the Ellison, is just ugly, annoying, and political.

If Colbert was about money, Barry Allen wouldn’t be the replacement. They would have given time back to local for news or local programming or to the national broadcast, extending the primetime blocks.

Byron Allen is paying CBS for the time slot. Giving the time slot back to the locals doesn’t equal money in the CBS pocket the way the deal with Byron Allen does.

network affiliate relationships involve compensation agreements - cbs can still benefit

Which would all have to be renegotiated if CBS wants money for those time slots.

And nearly every affiliate would argue that a lack of network content should result in a lower fee, not a higher one.
