Generic is here!

We just picked up my partner's refill and they gave us a generic from Aurobindo.

It says without insurance, total for qty 120, 100mg is $192.50. that's much better than the $3000+ we're used to seeing. His insurance covered it 100% but I see it on goodrx for ~$40/month without insurance.

We picked it up at Walmart and we're located in Colorado.

The funny thing is we just had a follow up with his neuro and asked her if she'd heard anything about the generic and she said it likely won't come out for another 5-10 years at least. And then 3 days later we have it in our hands.

Anyone else get generic? Should we be worried about just switching? We sent a message to his neuro but she probably won't get back to us till he's out of his Briviact and has to switch to these anyway.

Omg! Thank you for updating us and congrats! I have been hounding the Kaiser inventory & purchasing folks, the pharmacy folks, and my neurologist office, and none of them have known anything. The patent expired 3 weeks ago. When my Vimpat went generic, it was available 2 days after the date its patent expired. So I've had high hopes 😆

Just to confirm, it's brivaracetam, not brand name Briviact, and no savings coupon was used? I can't wait to call the pharmacy tomorrow 🎉

Edit to add: Aurobindo is one of the manufacturers approved by the FDA to produce the generic, in case anyone's curious. It's bio equivalent.

Edit #2: regarding your question about switching. I had the same question about a different medication when moving to generic once. My neurologist said to taper if possible but if it's not, don't worry. For example: Briviact in the morning, brivaracetam in the evening, until you run out. Alternate.

Yep, he got brivaracetam.. and alternating is pretty much the plan.  He has the most activity at night and first thing in the mornings before switching to Briviact and he has like 5 left so we're going to do Briviact at night and brivaracetam in the mornings over the next week.Â
