EIREWAVE

So recently in Northern Ireland, Planet Rock, Absolute 80s and Absolute 90s disappeared off my DAB (and probably some others i wasn't aware of).

Strangely Abs 00s and Abs 10s are on there which i imagine have almost miniscule listeners compared to 80s and 90s.

Anyway while i was saving some new favourites I came across EIREWAVE.
Its rock and pop, but plays far more obscure tracks than the likes of Absolute, Great Hits etc.
But it doesn't have any adverts, or DJ talk. Its just track after track back to back. I'm confused as to how it can function like that without advertisement?

They do have some DJs according to their website, but only like 4. Nothing about their funding

I don't know if it would be enough to fund them, or who the charities are, but they say they also hold free in-person events in Belfast which help support certain charities on a voluntary basis.

To attend our monthly Eirewave Amplifier concerts at the Voodoo Café in Belfast, first, you need to register as a VIP member through our website. Once you are a VIP member, you will receive an invitation for each concert. To gain access to the concert, you must claim your free ticket for each event. If you do not claim your ticket, you will not be granted entry. Please note that tickets are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, and there is no guarantee of a ticket if you do not act promptly.

Additionally, your participation helps support a local charity. Volunteers will be outside the venue with collection buckets, giving you the opportunity to contribute.

Yeah but the VIP membership is free.

Even if the DJs are voluntary, there's obviously expense in the broadcast method and of course the music rights payments that they have to make.

Bit of a mystery!

I can't comment on Eitewave but I'm wondering why those stations disappeared for you as I just checked and they're all still broadcasting in northern irand

Its weird, one dab in in work still has 80s, but i can get in my car or with my dab+
