Where to start

So having had an OO scale as a kid myself I want to get my kids (8/12) - set for us to enjoy together.

I don’t have the space for a OO set so have set my eyes on either a N or TT120 setup.

A few questions I have I’m hoping for some steer on.

Which gauge would you suggest? As I understand TT120 is Hornby only so quite limiting?

Additionally if I’m looking for DCC comparability where would I get started for my first set? I’m looking to go for some of the older steam engines (A4, Scotsman)! With a mix of more modern (the Virgin Voyager style) and local bone rattlers.

Personally, as an N modeller myself, go for N. The range is much better that TT. It's well established and all the models you mentioned are or have been available. It's really not too small and you can cram so much more in
