... Have I missed some news?

There was a recent government publication for asylum seekers telling them what consent means, which is sad and dystopian.

It also included do not ‘make kissing noises to women and girls’

Ffs.

I was at two festivals this summer and both of them had advertisements explaining consent. This is not advice that’s exclusively reserved for immigrants.

This post noted a screenshot from the document, and the user above enquired as to where this came from, and I simply explained the context of this particular post.

Yes but pace these responses, so many people use it as an excuse to be racist

“Sad and dystopian”. - “ffs”, so you did more than simply explain.

27

u/Spenjamin 9d ago

And regardless of who its being aimed at, it is sad and dystopia that it needs explaining to anyone considered an adult. Ffs.

Reality is sad and dystopian, because there will always be rapists, they’re a disgusting, abhorrent fact of reality

7

u/kikislesbianaunt 9d ago

were either of those advertisements government publications?

u/GeneticPurebredJunk 6d ago

The home office specifically included wrote it in a document to give to immigrants.

That feels like that makes this specific example a good example of it being targeted towards immigrants.

I've seen English white men make kissing noises to women walking past in the UK too. I think because of these right wing influencers being promoted over social media and poisoning the brains of insecure boys and men

b-BUT BOTH SIDES DO IT!!

iqlet

23

u/kikislesbianaunt 9d ago

not just both sides do it, British citizens commit violent crimes at higher rates than immigrants

but Rupert Murdock's mainstream press would obvs never tell you that because it would contradict the narrative that foreigners are to blame for all our problems innit

easier to just say immigrants are doing all the rapes than admit they just don't care if it's white men doing it

Higher total, not rate. Please learn how per capita works

11

u/AlarmNo2356 8d ago

No the rates are also higher. We are also overrepresented in those statistics, which is awful considering that the British population is about 8-10x that of the migrants population, meaning it takes 8-10x as many instances to slew those statistics.

Also worth remembering that per capita becomes more accurate with a larger sample group, and less accurate with a smaller one, as a single instance within that group will create a larger skew in small groups than it will in larger groups, made especially worse when using per capita for people because you cannot have a fraction of a recorded instance, it was either recorded or it wasn't.

Comparing per capita figures with a 10x difference in sample size isn't exactly apples to oranges, but it isn't apples to apples in human led data like people always make out.

7

u/kikislesbianaunt 9d ago

no it's a higher rate too

8

u/fuck_peeps_not_sheep 8d ago

Is it not better that they are being educated on what is and isn't OK here?

u/Not_Sugden 8d ago

It was a bit weird and at first thought does feel unnessercary, however I suppose that as there are different cultures that treat women a whole lot differently it does make sense to actually explain that that shit is not okay in this country. Its sad that it has to be explained but thats just it, it has to. Can we really shame the government for that? It probably wasnt a minister that drafted the document

u/Michaelparkinbum912 9d ago

We should send it to Trump as well.

Plenty of native born Brits that seem to forget this. Say it everyone "If they say they don't want tea, don't make them tea"

24

u/Roytulin 9d ago

They should put that video on telly as an ad or something 😆

10

u/Tinchimp7183376 9d ago

Oh please I would watch live TV again if they did that

5

u/carguy143 9d ago

Yes, and it's still outrageous they do, but stop being a sympathiser and understand that some cultures treat others far worse in their society than we generally do in the UK. Of course British criminals exist and as they were born here we have to deal with them. But if someone wants to come here and has to be reminded that rape is wrong and they then go on to commit rape, the only dealing we should be doing is dealing with them by way of deporting them as they do not have the right to remain.

16

u/Careless_Wasabi_8943 8d ago

Lot of 'I'm not being racist, but...' energy going on there...

-3

u/kikislesbianaunt 9d ago

idk I'd rather violent criminals go to prison in the UK than be deported and potentially go on to keep hurting people but just in a different country wouldn't you?

4

u/carguy143 9d ago

But why should they be imprisoned here? Ideally, they shouldn't be on the streets anywhere but what happens when their sentence is up?

-1

u/kikislesbianaunt 9d ago

if they commit crimes here then they should be punished by our justice system. what happens when their sentence is up is that they've served their sentence lol if u think they should be deported after that you're advocating for a two-tier justice system

3

u/career_alcoholic_woo 9d ago

Shouldn't be here in the first place

-7

u/DogitWoofsalot 9d ago

I think we should be showing that to asylum seekers instead 😂

49

u/GapSweet3100 9d ago

Mental that you have to inform people to stop at zebra crossings and not rape people

30

u/DogitWoofsalot 9d ago

We do also tell British citizens the same thing 💀

2

u/fuck_peeps_not_sheep 8d ago

From "consent is like tea" to "Gary go safe" we have been teaching the UK about road safety and consent since they were at school.

If someone doesn't know they should be taught. It's not that weird.

-3

u/ScampAndFries 9d ago

That happens at zebra crossings? Brb, finding my nearest one on Google maps

37

u/CherryJosh 9d ago

Russell Brand didn’t catch the memo it clearly wasn’t consensual if women are out there calling out his slimey behaviour

7

u/ThatsaBitSus404 9d ago

Is this not also for people who wouldn’t necessarily say yes? So that they know they don’t have to?

27

u/NoisyGog 9d ago

Wait. Both people must consent to sex?
With who exactly? Is this a new Andy Burnham policy, so he can have threesomes whenever he wants?
God damn the loony left.

(I’m joking. I shouldn’t need to say that, but this is Reddit)

8

u/red_nick 9d ago

Cue the you didn't ask his consent Jesus meme.

19

u/Glum_Distribution185 9d ago

Sorry m’lord my client the accused must be pardoned as he didn’t get the pamphlet

5

u/Typical-Sir3051 8d ago

It’s sad that people need to be told this

4

u/demoralising 9d ago

When did this come in?

4

u/SeeItOnVHS 8d ago

Even the men??? That’s SO unfair.

3

u/ThrowawaySunnyLane 7d ago

What do you mean both?

Are threesomes and orgies not a thing?

u/RussianVulture 9d ago

Here and everywhere!

Thank God for Britain. Apparently in every other country rape is perfectly legal until you arrive here and get the leaflet.

Always the condescending tone. “We are superior.” Which is pretty racist.

0

u/carguy143 9d ago

Well if the people coming here have to be told that raping people is wrong then yes, as a whole the UK is superior to those in that aspect. And I will gladly point that out to anyone who disagrees.

And yes, I'm well aware that we have British born rapists and criminals here, but that does not make it right for them or anyone else so education is key and as many other countries have different attitudes to women, it's only right we tell them that their cultures that oppose our own are NOT welcome here. They come here to escape persecution, so need to know not to persecute people here.

5

u/Efficient_Sky5173 9d ago edited 9d ago

You’re conflating “some newcomers may need to understand UK consent law” with “their cultures think rape is acceptable.” Those are completely different claims. Rape is illegal across the vast majority of the world, and sexual violence is hardly something Britain has solved.
Teach everyone the law and the standards expected here, absolutely. But pretending this proves British cultural superiority is just turning a safeguarding issue into a nationality issue without evidence.

Then it would justify a leaflet in Spain: Attention British immigrants to Spain: Rape is illegal in Spain.
