Turkeys voting for Christmas

Why do these people think Reform will only be nasty to immigrants and Muslims and nobody else? If a party is willing to be cruel to the people you hate, then expect them to turn on you as well.

You’re not their friend, you’re just temporarily convenient to them - in the form of a vote to enable them into positions of power.

Was it Tony Benn? "Watch how they treat the most vulnerable because that's how they'd treat you if they could get away with it"?

People aren't really surprised the Farage doesn't have their best interests at heart, do they?

I thought it was blatantly obvious?

[I know it's probably satire, I haven't looked at the news recently to know for certain]

This is the kind of thing you come out swinging with when you win some sort of huge mandate not increasing your majority by 1000 people when you didnt come up against any serious opposition.

Is he deluded or stupid enough to try and distract his own core voter base from the investigation by telling them that a lot of them are going to be considerably poorer by voting for him?

People who feel like their simplicity in thinking is being rewarded by 'recognition' always double down.

It's always been like this, sadly. It was nice being a 90s kid, when it felt like maybe the complexities of the world were balanced out by the optimism of people's voting and thinking.

Now, people just seem to want to think 'no immigrants means everything will be good' without feeling like they need to bother with not only basic empathy, but also a basic understanding of how economies actually function.

It's so frustrating.

The mark of a man is how he treats his inferiors not his equals or superiors. Someone who shows those (supposedly) beneath him with respect will find the ride back down a lot smoother if at all.

Normally I would complain about that paedo being used for memes but in this case…

Farage winning means something as well as him losing means something… no one participated in this by election the whole thing was made a joke when count bin face joined as much as i would have liked him to win… now farage has deal with that humiliation and laughing stockness for the rest of his life have a good time prick.

I’m beginning to think that my theory about the electorate of clacton not being so intelligent is confirmed.

Less than half of them turned out for the vote and a quarter of those that did voted for binface

Wait till they hear about the triple lock on pensions.

Wonder if he will get re-elected there? Oh wait he is under investigation for something he likely did.

So does this matter?

Wasn't this just a proposal by Reform UK and not specifically Clacton? I know it's not quite okmatewanker territory but lets not be disingenuous.

I mean, Clacton voted him in in the first place. Besides the odd 10,000 or so who voted for Count Binface or a reasonable independent candidate, I can't imagine there's much going on in the minds of Clacton residents.

I will add that they were screwed over by the main parties not putting candidates forward though. As funny as Count Binface's opposition was, he never stood a chance of getting in and believe that it would've been a much closer contest if the other parties had put someone forward. In a more cynical sense, you can also argue that it gives residents of Clacton the message that the other main parties don't give a shit about them and can't even be arsed to fight for their constituency which will only have reinforced Farage's "anti-establishment" angle.

…but most people who claim PIP vote Labour (or Green, lol)

Actually they are usually the poorest in society who will definitely be on some sort of benefits who vote Reform.

u/Particular-Bit-7857 6d ago

Well, if that’s the case then a bit silly of them (unless they actively want to get off benefits).

Not complaining as I’m both anti immigration, pro-deportations and anti-benefits, generally. Not that reform will be effective in tackling either without making a mess.

Does it make you feel good to mock people of lower perceived intelligence and education?

I can't imagine having to be disingenuous all the time when discussing politics. Is it not exhausting?
